Don't know what to tell you, if you think being charge for an action someone else does and you cannot stop ever for your lifetime is a reasonable pricing scheme, enjoy it, can I also charge you every time I sip water?

    I don't believe this.

It's not about friendship, it's about trust.

    All business operates on trust.

And it's important that when you do a deal with someone or some firm they abide by the terms of the agreement.

People like Egon Durban, for instance, become just as angry and irritated when someone screws them over.

And it's okay to be angry at the executives at Unity for their behavior. Their behavior IS wrong. Their behavior IS unethical. Their behavior warrants anger. Their behavior warrants feelings of betrayal.

    Developers are justifiably upset.

This is not how you do business.

I believe it's not personal rather people are get use to tool they using daily and all their world revolving around. I created very versatile systems and tools over past 5 years to release and design my games and it gives sense of ownership which is obviously not but u can't tell yourself how to feel.

    Godot Introduction

i’ve heard some people say that Godot is not ready for prime time… It’s definitely not as far along as unity, but it is surprising how much you can do! It can even do some things that unity CAN’T!

Love the fact that you can make changes to your scene while playing the game in editor, which doesn't get erased when you hit stop.

I would say it does more than the average unity user would even need. And it’s all FREE, and no splash screen, no begging for dark mode. And it’s open source, so if there’s a problem, you can actually work on a solution yourself and submit it to the project.

That is something totally typical in F2P games, you make the more expensive solution look cheaper by arbitrary increasing the price of the lower tiers. That way ppl will always stream to the bigger packages because the calculation of cost/metric is lower. That is the reason personal costs 20 cents, pushing you into the higher tier because look you just win with the bigger package even if it is more expensive for you.

I have to admit I start having my doubts of either it was right choice of tech. Researching Unreal since all this mess started and I am blown how many systems are just there by design like vehicle physics, world streaming, etc. First I was wondering why do they have so few systems in asset store lol now I see :) maybe its all for good in the end.

is this all just short-term market manipulation to liquidate shares for personal gain?

I have been using Unity for over a decade and for the last year I have been hard at work on a game I hope becomes successful someday. Because of this sleazy crap I will never touch Unity again and I'm getting started on the process of porting my game to another engine as I type this even if it sets me back a few months. Luckily most my time up until now has been making art. First I will try out Godot and if that doesn't work out I'll go with Unreal.

I haven't tested yet, but this tool to migrate a project from Unity to Unreal seems interesting. Some one knows anything?

But if the game price is over an amount, Unreal scheme is vastly more expensive, so why would want to loose exponentially more money in such case ?

Unity scheme is vastly better in some cases.

been with unity since 2017. leaving now. The price increases will not stop.

Unity will slowly wiggle their prices upwards... its inevitable. Why ? Corporate Greed.

Pure and simple. Moving on and switching.

Also for anyone who has purchased several hundred dollars of assets... Go back
and change your review. Still review the asset, but state thast you cant review/endorse Unity due their Price increase and corporate greed.

Unity makes some extra $$$ from the asset store sales.
    And if those sales drop.
    It hurts unity's bottom line.
And according to unity thats the only thing Unity cares about.

If you still don't get why people are actually mad then you're either concussed or you're John Riccitiello, Tomer Bar Zeev & Egon Durban in a trench coat.

Haha yeah I have the same impression. You clearly see the difference: Unreal is used by Epic to create games so they simply know what's needed, contrary to Unity.

Depends on how much your game is. You can pay much more with unity depending on if it’s free to play or paid.

Yeah, and I TRUST a big faceless corporation to any day turn around and step on little old me.

I aint saying just roll over and take it, but if you are gonna spit on any attempt to 'fix' things and has indeed already moved on to greener pastures then dont just stay around muddying the waters.

To me Unreal is just as trustworthy. I dont get how yall just forgot all the S*** epic tried to pull in the past. Godot has potential but it is still bad, otherwise everyone here would have been there from the start.

It is stupid to just keep screaming 'Dont matter what they do im leaving the F***ers' and then stay around waiting for changes. Either you are done or you are hoping for the better whether you admit or not.

It is why I have to 'whiteKnight' for unity when dumbos keep pulling completely wrong scenarios to explain why they are leaving for the 178th time. Go to Twitter if you just wanna vent. Tag the Ceo and go to town.

Yes, but my point is that having a 5% scheme can be vastly worse than what Unity proposes, so going with such is far from the best option.

Starting from Unity scheme with adding a cap to cover low priced games would be much better than an Unreal like scheme

People are mad because have to pay something, this is a general rule of life. They would be as mad or more if Unity announced a 5% cut, i would be same also btw

Anything from free to some payment will result in an uproar

Dude I've started working on Godot two days ago, and my current project is doing great. I'm just here cause it's fun, and I want to see how stupid they will get. It's like looking at a car crash. It's fascinating.

You do not 'have to', you choose to. For whatever reasons. I guess you secretly love Riccitiello and you want to invite him to your wedding? Or something? Guess what, the billion dollar corporation doesn't need your white knighting. They will be just fine without you name calling distressed and unhappy customers here.

This is an entirely predatory pricing model. No revenue is generated upon a user installing the game. Only when they purchase the game, which means you can charge people multiple times for a single purchase of a game. This is automatically unsustainable. You are also charging the people who make the least, the most amount of money per install. All this does is make it so indie devs have another barrier to entry when they try to grow their company. Unity has lost my trust, and therefore my business.

Ya that’s right. Unreal costs much more in some situations… BUT, unity knows that people don’t really creage AAA games with them. So that’s why they skew they’re prices higher towards the free to play and low price games. And it can be crazy expensive for those.

You still don't get it. People would be simply unhappy if Unity brings forth a transparent pricing scheme where we need to pay more. People are furious not because we need to pay more, but because we need to pay UNVERIFIABLY more, opaque system, we need to trust that Unity will bill us on a sensible way and we can't check the results. This is the overused "just trust me bro billing".

You're not the only one speaking. Most of the posts are all about the money. Not yours apparently. I think you're the guy that talks about trust. Maybe it's someone else. You can't trust any company. TOS can be changed by any company.

But we dont really know yet any details on this, so is it certain that will be a bad case and not a very conservative estimation well below actual sales ? Possibly adjusted by the actual reported company revenue.

Hmm... I think there's a pretty good chance I saw that a few days ago and I unconsciously plagiarised it (it would explain the similar phrasing)

There are multiple ways to do that in Unity, I hope that it wasn't an example of what you could do in Godot only.
Also, you can do practically whatever you want in Unity, even things that people say you can't. Even very specific stuff like dual quaternion skinning; it's all about the work/money you put in (or that the community already put in for you of course).

1- And Unity scheme takes 110% in some other cases, what was your point?
2- I'm talking about predictability here, you can predict x% per month/per sell, but you can't predict installs. One sell could be one install like it could be 10, installs are NOT and SHOULD NOT become any kind of metric.
3- The new TOS lets Unity change, without notice, the thresholds and fee amounts in the future.

Said the one who is stating that Unreal Scheme is vastly worse.

    This guy gets it.

No I have to because when someone comes around not understanding the issue I think it is better to said person to actually know the real issue.

If things are that bad there is no need to make stuff up. I am still waiting for that list of giants that had left unity (unlisted their game or something). Cuz so far the best we got was a big team saying they'd unlist on 2024 but were quick to walk back.

Yall can look down for your high horse as much as you want but IF (and that is a big if) things turns out still the better deal all those huge companies making all those millions dollars we all want to make will stay just where they are. Because business is business.

Well he had been ignoring my Facebook event invite but I was giving him the benefit of the doubt that he might not have seen it. But to be honest after this I am starting to think he might not in actual fact want to be my friend. If he doesn't straighten out this unity mess and accept my invitation I will be forced to cancel the invite

But this is just a speculation, how we even know will be an overestimation and not the rather expected safer underestimation ?

How is established that Unity will choose to overestmate and risk lawcases and not largly underestimate the installs ?

Overblown push back probably from short sellers. Most of the whining is probably bots.

If it is real people... probably free/indy users... stop being entitled. Unity gotta make money. If you actually meet the numbers it means you are making decent money with Unity. Paying unity a TINY fee is not a big deal.

I said Unreal scheme is vastly worse in some cases, which is 100% true.

Personally i would never start a project where the engine asks a whoping 5% cut, when i can adjust my Unity game price to get an exponentially better deal

Do you really trust Unity after all of these shenanigans? After this many years of neglect and multiple uproar because of ulterior motives behind business decision? Do you really think they will guestimate in your favor?

Johnny and his gang will look out for ya?

Yeah, but I built all my stuff for Unity and I have some paid assets I got in sales.

I really don't want to give Unity money anymore though. It feels like a huge scam now.

I thought the same thing... until I started checking out some of the complaints in this 212 page thread. It became apparent to me that F2P games are in trouble and a lot of the issues are legit.

I trust them, i never had an issue with them, so why would i expect otherwise ?

What they do in the company management side is beyond me and my understanding, as i am not in the board. If they keep Unity alive all this time, they certainly do me a favor as Unity is still my editor of choice by far.

What issue you had with Unity that broke your trust ?
