This might be at bit messy to read, sorry in advance

I was trying to move a project folder from my desktop to my laptop. The version of Unity i have on my laptop is newer than the version i have on the desktop. When i tried to open the project on my laptop it showed the standard "This project is a different version" window and i pressed "OK". It then proceeded, but ran into an error "Failed to resolve packages: Manifest". To fix this error i (Almost) completely deleted unity from my laptop and tried downloading the version of Unity the project was last opened in, this didn't solve that problem, but after installing Unity Hub and the newest beta version of Unity hoping the error was fixed. When i opened the project in the newest beta (2018.2.0b11) a new error occurred Error.PNG
The new and old error messages are a bit similar. They both say "Unexpected token '/u0000' at 1:1" but in different .json files.

    Summary:
    - While trying to open a moved project on another computer than the "origin computer" resulted in it not being able to update to the newest unity release.
    - I completely uninstalled unity from my computer an reinstalled the newest beta (with hub)
    - A new error occurs

    Notes:
I may have failed in completely uninstalled Unity, because when i opened hub it found an old installation (2017.3.1f1)

So I went away for a bit, came back, opened the project and it worked fine. So I i guess it is fixed... somehow

    I have a similar error

"An error occurred while resolving packages:
    Package com.unity.render-pipelines.lightweight@2.0.3-preview has invalid dependencies:
com.unity.render-pipelines.core: Version [2.0.3-preview] is incompatible with the selected version [2.0.0-preview]
One or more packages could not be added to the local file system:
com.unity.render-pipelines.core: Package [com.unity.render-pipelines.core@2.0.0-preview] cannot be found

A re-import of the project may be required to fix the issue or a manual modification of C:/Users//Documents/Posteffects/Packages/manifest.json file."
    "

But mine persists, i even reinstalled unity 2018.2.0f2 but stays the same, just fails when i create a project of type lightweight

I'm a little late to the game, but here's an answer for anyone else who has this problem.

If you open the manifest.json file you can find a line that says "com.unity.analytics". I just deleted it and all was well. Though this is definitely just a patchwork fix as now I don't think I have access to that library.

What worked for me was deleting the package.json file and then Unity would automatically generate a new package file when I opened the project again.

    1. Delete all file from C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Unity\cache directory
    2. And check for unity editor's driver and your project's directory's driver. both of them's driver have to c:

    Above items solved my problem.

You might also try Reset Packages to Default (after making a backup of course) under the Help menu

To solve this problem go to Help>Reset Packages in Unity and problem will be solved.
If not then delete the <Project-Root>>Packages>manifest.json file. So, unity will auto generate the new file. These are the two best solutions for this

To solve this problem just go to your unity help menu and and click on "reset packages to defaults".

Deleting the corresponding com. dependency from manifest.json has fixed the issue for me twice, but in one of my cases it was "com.unity.xr.oculus.standalone": "2.38.4"

    I deleted manifest.json
    I also deleted \library and \temp folders

I'm getting a lot of 'access denied' errors.
I'm using version 2018.4 and the project was created using 2018.2
You would think this would work - moving a project to a different version is a bit of a nightmare.
    There's thousands of these:

    upload_2020-3-28_18-54-7.png

A quick fix is deleting everything in packages when you get loads of errors when Unity loads an 'old' scene.

Ahh, Thx. Did the HELP-RESET, then saved, and closed Unity. Then started it again, and all is resolved.

Sadly it does not work for me.
In my case, Reset Packages in Unity makes no effect on the errors. And after I delete manifest.json, Unity auto generate a new manifest.json with much less packages. Some other errors also come out, which are saying that some custom classes are not found. And I search for another PC which does not have this issue, the classes are saved in User\AppData\Local\Temp\MetadataAsSource. I have no idea how to fix it.

I opened the "packages-lock" file and resolved the issues that were caused by source control. That fixed it.

Had a similar issue. The fix in my case was to open the package manager and then select "Packages: In Project". There was an error symbol next to an error that was causing issues. In my case, I had deleted package assets without formally removing it from the package manager. I clicked the troublesome package, then clicked "Remove" and all was fixed.

I had the same problem. In my case, rename the files manifest.JSON and packages-lock.JSON. Then I closed Unity and the system recreated them but with errors in the console because the packages associated with my project were now missing. I reloaded them from Package Manager and everything worked OK.

In my case, possibly because of a package I installed, it incorrectly assumed that it needed the high-definition pipeline installed. A simple edit of manifest.json, in which I deleted that singular line, fixed it for me. Since I know for a fact that my project does not depend on the HDRP, this seemed safe enough.

Several of my team members had the same issue.
If you couldn't solve the problem using the solutions above, you may not have the git program on your computer because the package manager uses git.
Try to install git bash and restart your computer then it could work.
