Hello everyone, We have some basic questions that really need answers

We are trying to make a multiplayer game based on p2p and matchmaking. But so far we have to work with Unity Master Server. We have not tried Unity 5.2.2 Multiplayer yet. Only local coop for now because this networking is very complicated for us.

    1. When using p2p, the system picks a player to become a host/server. Is this correct?
    2. Do we need a master server (our own server) in order to use p2p?
    3. What is CCU in Photon? if we pay money for like 1000 connections, are they dedicated servers or p2p?

Also if we have to work with Unity Master server which allows 100 people connection right now. What is the cost if we want more to people to connect? A link is appreciated

    Thanks a lot in advance

P2p means that clients communicate directly, no (authoritative) server in between. What do you mean by system? I'd say there are different meanings to p2p. In online gaming context, this could mean, that every client has authority or it could mean that every client may also behave like a server ( make use of a service or maybe also provide a service, which is the true meaning of p2p ).

P2p is sometimes ( or often? ) used in combination with master servers to connect the peers. Like a chat, where you see who's online ( = are connected to the master server ) and if you want to chat, you do it directly ( communicate not via a server, but directly with other peers -> p2p ). To have a list of available games, a master server is always a good idea, I think.

I'd suggest reading a bit more into this stuff, so you really understand what is meant by client/server or authoritative server and the p2p model.

Thanks. Do you know there is a good tutorial for p2p network in Unity?
