Anyone else having issues with Unity not refunding $$$ for broken assets from the asset store?

I've got a refund request they're ignoring, if I open a new ticket to ask for a status update on it... They just auto close it and mark it resolved haha.

i seem to recall as you hit refund it says it might take 30 mins, then later you get emails it says 14 days.... but even though i cant find a single email, im sure i read 30 days somewhere.

Ive also had issues with purchases from the store. ive spent plenty of money there but broken assets seem common. It seems to be a wrong expectation that you pay money, take a blank project add the asset and it doesnt fill your screen with errors. Now sure, maybe you dont have all the necessary packages etc, thats ok thats fine. But it does seem like a lot of them just plain dont work.. after years of hearing about how great ngui was and wanting it from afar, I bought it in a sale.. yeah load in project.Barf barf barf... so disappointed.. When the demos dont work.. what hope is there? can I get a refund? probably not..

for me, I find the asset store often depressing. Im not saying a lot of work didnt go into many of the assets and some of them truly are out of this world (especially you synty your stuff is awesome). However, theres also a lot of unfunctional and id go as far as misleading assets on there too. Now i dont necessarily expect like the asset store that unity does a bunch of tests necessarily, but, many of the people dont like it if the reviews say it didnt work - but if I buy a tv and its broken, thats my review, i got one but it was broken, not feeling happy.. cant change that..

Things to check first before calling an asset „broken“:
    • Does it work without errors in the Unity version it is said to be compatible with?
    • Does it work when importing the asset to a new, empty project?
    • Both of the above together?
    • Are there easy fixes to any error messages? Such as installing a dependent package. Or possibly just ignoring the console messages - even Synty assets throw various mesh errors upon importing that can be discarded, as well as negative BoxCollider warnings when entering playmode.

Also be cautious buying assets that have not been updated in the past 1-2 years, less so if the asset is only visual or audio assets, more so if the asset is mainly scripts or an editor tool.

To satisfy my own curiousity: could you link the assets you feel are broken and what‘s wrong with them?

yes very valid calls, if you dump it in your project and it barfs, all manner could be wrong, but like i said if I take a blank project make sure i have al needed packages if their demo doesnt work, or its still barfing left right and center, it is fairly safe to say, it isnt working right.

I dont mind if theres a read me that says "you need to do x,y,z" but when it was updated say a month back, and it just errors everywhere...

Probably not being ignored, probably just somewhere in a very long queue with not enough staff to deal with it.

The one time I've request a refund so far it took about 4 weeks to get a reply.
