Bug Unity Hub: Install failed: Validation Failed

    Hello, I keep getting this error saying "Install failed: Validation Failed", when I try to install Unity editor.

    I've tried: disabling UAC, launching Unity hub as a admin, allowing UnityHub.exe in my firewall, temporary turning off my antivirus, restarting my computer. But no luck for me.
    I will add my log error messages, if necesarry.

    Is anybody having the same problem or does anybody know how to fix this? Im becoming kinda desperate.

    I also have the same error, i've been trying to fix this issue for a week and still no luck, i tried uninstalling, runing as admin, turning off UAC, and changing folder locations.

    If someone could help I would really apreciate it

    I've looked for the log errors and here is what I found:

    i'm here because i'm facing the same problem. I tried every possible solution I found on the internet just to fix this but no luck

    Download an older version of the hub not 3.5 and see the problems away like magic :) ( and do it again after restarting hub as unity autoupdates to 3.5 )

    I'm having this exact same problem and the same scenario. I completely disabled UAC and yet:

    you guys dont belive me i litellaly installed 5 editors liike other editors, same, fresh re insatll of all unty hub and unity versions, and even tried in multiple users
    the only thing i can do is to to is cry cry cry
    but tqs i fell good that it was a bug not only for me
    i have say that unity made me 1st time demovitaedas ga dev fukkk unity engine for these S*** bugs
    its acutally a good running whith existing editors but sudednly needed sdk , ndks, got some magical erros and i cant even redownlod the modules from hub so we have to re insatll same edioter and then now it fails to install what a good days for all of us The sad thing is i have completed allmy game the only thing left is just builds for playstore then all the mess happen still cannot solve the vefiy failed problme

    help me anyone

    As for the validation errors and being unable to install - this happened to me all the time until recently I replaced my wifi router, since then it's been working fine (so far), so I'm guessing it has to do with network conditions. However, the way I was able to get things installed was any time it failed, I'd cancel and then restart the computer, and then try again. If I didn't restart the computer, it seems the failure would be cached.. it would just keep failing if I didn't restart. I suspect terminating the process in Task Manager may do the same, but haven't confirmed. Also it might still fail after restart, just have to repeat the process again (cancel, restart, try again). Also if it's modules that fail (not the Editor), you can just try installing the editor by itself, then use Add Modules to add each one. For me that helped because the more things in the list at once the more fails I was likely to get for each attempt. Anyway hope that helps, hope Unity fixes this, good luck.

    yes if we restart pc we have to download whole S*** agin, some times killing alos same
    thts why is maully download the editor but been stuck on not having modules option
    waits unitl unitys fix it

    Your screenshot shows Failed at bottom left, so probably doesn't show Add Modules because of that.. most likely need to finish installing the Editor first, so if you can't just click that Failed area and then see Downloads again and click retry, just select Remove From Hub first and then start over.

    Yeah, download again from scratch - at least, I've never personally seen it resume a download. This has been an issue for a while now. I'm guessing they only have reliable internet when they test this stuff.. because if it was failing for them, they probably would have implemented solutions. Again though, I'm just assuming it has something to do with network conditions and bad error handling, but it could be some other bug that's being stubborn about repro. Also, since closing the hub doesn't clear the error (because the process is still running), you can retry all day and it will keep failing until you restart system or [possibly] force close those processes in Task Manager before opening Hub again. That's not something everyone just knows. And if you have slow internet or you have to pay for bandwidth, this is a really serious issue.

    as you say im paying for internet no wifi, but its not a problem if it works at all
    and we cannot click retry as we know it wont work
    also if we manually donwlod editor and android support it sucks at sdks and jdks and says
    Hey SDK pakages list cannt be updated waste you time for me bcoz ur using unity
    i swear i dont what to do now if im in Game process middle i can forget aboubt builds and make in game , but all is ready to publish into plystore then this happens

    Going that way just leads to no modules, even if you edit the .json file saying it wasn't installed manually

    Not sure what else to suggest. I'm all out of ideas and nobody else is even bothering to reply (not counting the earlier suggestion by @Lars-Steenhoff - which I'm assuming you've already tried). If you've searched all over the place and looked at other related threads and still getting nowhere, I guess you could file a bug report, contact support.. and/or hope somebody else comes along with something else to try while you're waiting.

    i finallly seeing add modules button even edioter was not really installed from Hub , but it was another thing to say " No longer Availbe from HUB"
    Do you guys try With UAC to always notify
    counting days to solve verfifcayion failuere

    Hello! This bug has been tricky to solve because no one at unity has been able to reproduce it, and there are many potential causes (including just pressing no when UAC prompt comes up).

    If after the install fails you have this in their `info-log.json`:

    Could you please record a video going through the install process including the uac prompt appearing on screen and pressing yes ? This is just for sanity to validate that you can validly reproduce this bug. After that please send me your info-log.json.

    **edit: the other thing that the video proves is that the uac prompt appears in the first place -- windows can be configured to not show the prompt. I don't think you guys are pressing no, but it does happen :)

    I'm having this problem. I can go through and record the setup if you like, but I never get a UAC prompt. Hub just downloads and when it starts to install the Editor, it comes back immediately with this message. I've tried changing (even removing) the UAC prompt level, and it still has this problem.

    This only happens on one of three machines I've tried it on: all Windows 10. This started happening shortly after I switched from using a personal license to a floating license from a company server--though I have no way of knowing if there's a causal relationship there.

    @GeoCat I believe setting UAC to none actually causes it to never appear, but also not necessarily give permissions -- so the setting you want is always notify. Set it to always notify and try hub again just to be sure. After that could you install or update some other application and verify that in another scenario you can get the UAC prompt to appear ?

    After that I'll have to do some investigation and give you some troubleshooting steps to pin down why this would happen.

    BTW what do you mean by "removing" the UAC prompt level ? Setting it to none in user account control settings or something else ?

    Same problem here as comment #27, using Unity Hub 3.6 (I also tried with previous versions), I get the error: 'user did not agree to the UAC prompt and the process was not started'", but I didn't get the prompt on windows (UAC works fine for other programs)

    I thought I might share a case here where validation failed occurs when installing editors. For my company, it is because we use cylance that blocks powershell processes that your installer process uses.

    I am guessing you guys used cmd.exe to run the command in the old version and changed it to powershell on new hubs.
    If thats the case, is it possible to have the option for us to choose which CLI to be used by the hub?

    Well we cant delete it so it is not verified. But it is for sure one of the roadblocks. Everytime unity hub tries to run the "--winInstaller" command, a warning pops up on our pc saying the process is blocked.

    @CharlieSCWong Yes that is as good as confirmation for me. Thanks. Unfortunately we can't roll back to v2.4 because of a different issue (the reason we switched methods) While we investigate a fix, you or IT may be able to unblock hub by adding it to any allow lists you have available in your security programs. The sub process we run for windows install has the same entry point as the normal hub app.

    Does it appear in the windows search bar when you type "Local Security Policy" ?

    I'm not sure if we are testing home edition. Thanks it is a lead to follow.

    Windows (11) Start bar search results only point to the website, not the local drive. If I use "Run" in Windows, and enter secpol.msc, it says "not found". Some reports on the web indicate that the Home version may not include this tool.

    Testing UnityHub 3.6.1. on another machine with identical Win build- and Unity installs are O.K., everything go as expected. I've never installed Unreal Engine or Android Studio on this machine, so maybe the Windows here will be "cleaner"...

    I will try to compare Windows settings on both machines with regard to security, firewall, etc..

    EDIT: After reinstalling Windows everything is O.K.
    EDIT: No, I cannot create new project becouse "path lenght" too long :)

    I had the same problem for a since july , i am just a guy trying to learn unity. I tried all the suggestions above and still the same error; I tried every unity hub(even the beta ones) and editor version(in 2023) ( it took me a long time). I have posted a bug request too, I will leave a screen recording of me trying to install the editor and my log files if somebody tells me where to find them.

    I also tried everything, but without success. I deleted as many registry entries as possible, used ccleaner, tried a lot of things as admin, managed rights for the various folders, and so on... nothing worked.
    Except for Hub version 2.4.5, which allowed me to install an older editor version, which is not my goal.

    Haven't been able to install a new Unity for months now... (using the hub). I can download and install editors just fine.

    The WebGL installer gets downloaded but the editor fails to verify - but there is no file after this, either. I turned off Defender for my Unity and Unity downloads folder, but to no avail.

    The failure is completely silent, no UAC or other error popups. This is with the release preview channel of Windows 11 Insider Preview.

    I guess the whole install fees thing blew up so hard, we can't even install the editor anymore :p
    (that's right when it started, too - so I'd reckon someone flagged your binaries as fraudulent perhaps, or maybe you can run the installer the old way, that used to work even in Hub 3.4.0?)

    Are you using an admin account ?

    If so can you try to change this setting to "prompt for consent on the secure desktop" ?

    So, after I reinstalled Windows 11 from ground up ... it works again ...! I don´t know why ...! This shouldn´t be the solution for this error!

    I've tried all these settings, plus a large subset of permutations. It just won't work. (and Unity Hub is the only application that has this problem, btw.) I can install the installers fine on their own, also from my own automated processes, e.g. even shell scripts or unsigned compiled binaries.

    Please roll back to one of the dozen proper ways of invoking the installer executable, like anyone else on the planet. I mean, come on. It's not rocket science.

    Your BI team ought to have noticed a statistically significant drop-off in Unity Hub use by now, too.
