Unity Hub Cannot Activate Free Personal License

Hello!

I just downloaded Unity Hub and the Unity Editor. I made a new Unity account today to start learning game development with Unity.

However, on a fresh install (~30 minutes ago), I cannot use Unity / make a new project because it says I don't have any licenses. When I try to add the personal free license, it never works. What is going on?

Please help! I'm on Mac OS X Big Sur 11.5.2.

try downloading the unity hub 2 maybe this beta versions have issues. then log in and add the license

 

dorusoftware was right. I have the problem same problem with u, and when i downloaded it i still have a license. Idk what's wrong with the beta >:[

i was using the beta and i switched to unity 2 and i was still getting the same problem. Specifically 'Failed to reach Unity licence server' and 'Machine identification is invalid for current licence'. I've tried all the solutions on the forums but still nothing.

I didn't realise that "Beta" meant completely untested.
The UI does not allow selection of "Get a free personal license"

 

Has anyone tried uninstalling, because i'm thinking about seeing if that'll work

 

I'm also unable to get a personal license for my account on a new computer (macOS Monterey) and keep getting the error "there was a problem activating a new personal license". The Hub log file says "Machine identification is invalid for current licence. I am still able to return and reactivate my Unity license on the old computer.

I installed Unity Hub 3.0 beta v6

I also tried an older version of Unity Hub

I have returned the license on the old computer. I have tried most if not all solutions suggested on the Unity forums and Unity Support site.

I asked Unity support for help but didn't get an answer yet.

What else can I do? Did anyone find a solution yet?

 

Hey, I think I managed to get it to work by navigating with the keyboard pressing tab, then space on the button.
It only worked after waiting a few seconds.

I am on linux so we only have the Beta version, no production version.

Having the same issue with not being able to get a license in Hub 3.0.0. I'm on a Mac running OS 10.15.7 and using the link above downloads the Unity Hub 3.0.0 installer for some reason. Not the Hub 2.0 installer like the website suggests. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

 

I used the link above (at the top). I uninstalled Unity Hub first, then ran the installer. It reinstalled UnityHub 3.0 and now everything works, so try that.

This was on Windows 10.

did it work for anyone with the "activate with license request" option? when i tried it, it couldn't even sownload the request file...

Hi! I just yesterday found another thread about the same/similar problem with Unity Hub 3, and another person there provided with links to an archive where i was finally able to get version 2.3.2 on mac

For me all this methods dont work

 

I did this and the problem was solved:
quit the UnityHub. look for "Unity_lic.ulf" in your system and delete it and then restart the UnityHub.

 

Last comment by Alidsf fixed my issue on Ubuntu 20.04 after upgrading to new version of Unity 2.5 to 3.0

 

Hub Logs
Windows: %UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming\UnityHub\logs
Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/UnityHub/logs
Linux: ~/.config/UnityHub/logs

look at this folder. If there is no UnityHub folder, create it and restart the program with beta version.
It worked for me after that.

 

I tried all this stuff and it still won't work. I can't find a "unity_lic.ulf" I'm on Mac.

 

I have 3 pirated versions of Unity, but I can't activate free license and can't even open pro versions And if I delete Unity Hub, I can't download assets anymore

I have an identical computer to my son. Gaming rig. He is very much into learning this...he is pretty awesome at other coding stuff...we are hitting a wall. I was able to activate with my gmail account no problem...a free license. He used the same method but his gmail instead and it says that it is unable to activate, and no internet connection or no server is avialable. I have reinstalled, restarted, checked if it was blocked by firewall...and nothing seems to fix it. I even did the manual activation and when I attach the file that is sent back to me...it says "unable to save license". I was curious if this was because we are both on the same network. Someone please help. He is gonna be wrecked if he can't start working with this...he loves the platform and almost only plays unity titles...

Check if KeyIso(CNG Key Isolation) windows service is turned on through services.msc . I've just solved it that way.

Finally, I found a fix. Worked for me. Was facing this for mac. Unity Hub 3.1.1 working for me now.
After getting highly irritated because of such a pity issue with such a massive impact on development as suddenly I could not use my macbooks for game development anymore.

Note: This solution does not require manual activation. We will be making the 'Get a free personal license' option work.

Here are the steps to debug. We will be checking unity hub logs. If your activation is failing because of the same reason (which we will be checking) then it should definitely work for you as well.

1. Go to /Users/{macName}/Library/Application Support/UnityHub/logs
2. Watch the 'info-log.json' file (using something like `tail -100f info-log.json)
3. Launch UnityHub and try 'Get a free personal license'
4. In the logs file I was getting the following error log
A problem occurred while trying to activate ULF license.....Cannot save ULF license file....Access to the path '/Library/Application Support/Unity/Unity_lic.ulf' is denied.
The issue here is that UnityHub is not able to create the file as access to the location is denied.
5. Got to the above location and change the access permissions for the unity folder itself.
$ chmod 777 Unity/
6. Retry 'Get a free personal license' option. It will work now.

 

Just fixed this on my Windows machine by logout in Hub v3 and login again. Now my personal license is there.

 

thank god finally work. i use windows 10 and unity hub 2.4.5. what i do is give full control access to hidden folder c://programdata/unity/ (which Unity_lic.ulf reside) to users. thanks a bunch Devilzzz.

 

To fix this on Mac OS, I launched Unity Hub from Terminal as root:

sudo '/Applications/Unity Hub.app/Contents/MacOS/Unity Hub'

I have Win10 and Unity Hub version 3.1.2, but it may be helpful also for other configurations.

For me removing the "C:\ProgramData\Unity" folder did the trick. It had some files inside, probably some old Unity configurations from previous installation prevented license from proper activation.

 

Anyone new here having a problem can reinstall unity hub/install the latest version
this fixes it.
or else, give full access control to the c://programdata/unity/ folder
it contains lisence files etc.
