Unity doesn't open from Unity hub

    Unity broke licence file again.. delete c:/programdata/unity folder and try again..
    Enter license using serial key. Then everything works again..

    It accepted the license, yet I still can't open projects, and new projects load up with a different license (grey skins)

    My God! Thanks so much this worked for me just delete the Lic file from that folder and Re installed Hub. Cheers!

    I can't even submit a bug because it says, very eloquently, SOMETHING WENT WRONG. I'm on a Linux Debian with Unity Hub 2.2.2.
    Unity 2019.3.3 does not open neither from Hub nor directly via executable. Even with a new empty project it will show the splash screen and then silently crash or close.
    My license seems OK in the Hub.

    This worked for me.

    1. I deleted all Unity Folders in \AppData\Roaming
    ( There are two folders i saw: one is a folder called Unity, and the other is Unity Hub. I deleted both),
    (I saw a Unity lock file somewhere here and figured this was the real issue.)
    2. Restarted Unity Hub.
    3. All projects are loading now

    I'm having the same issue, tried all the solutions provided in this thread, no luck. I'm only able to open the project through a scene in Windows Explorer.

    +1 This worked for me.. Resolved the instant crash on launch from Unity hub. I am using Unity Version 2019.3.3f1 at the time of writing this post. (March 2020)

    This is the error when i try to reopen my previous project with same unity version installed on my pc.i tired reinstalling unity hub and also cleaned license cache.

    in the year 2020, I was able to solve this by deleting my Library for the project files. Then I just used Unity Hub and it worked again.

    I'm really disappointed by Unity, I'm going to use a different software now as I can't run it anymore.

    I'm on Windows 10 and I reinstalled Unity, Unity Hub, and changed my license, but none of them worked.

    Writing to confirm that installing an older version of Unity Hub solved the problem for me.

    I had the same issue. I wiped my drive and reinstalled windows and only installed Unity Hub and Unity. I could create a new project but couldn't open it back up once I exited the editor. It would hang at the splash screen and then go back to the hub window. I then wiped my drive again and reinstalled Windows and made a new UnityID. Still same issue. Turns out I've been charging PSVR controllers from the back usb ports of my computer and I had a Xbox USB adapter also plugged in. I unplugged every single USB device from my computer except my mouse and keyboard. BAM I can open projects again! No idea why it started messing up in the first place as I had all these things plugged in since the first time I start developing in Unity.

    I had the same issue - connected to a VPN and the issue mysteriously resolved. Would guess it was having trouble contacting the license server via the routes my ISP was giving it, but connecting to the VPN sent it through a different route?

    Bump. This still happened to me. I feel like it was due to having previous installations of unity. I had to delete the Unity folder in Program data then reinstall unityhub.

    My solution was to open any previous version of the Unity editor, it'll ask to reactivate your license. Do that, and then restart Unity Hub and open the project you want to open.

    My HUB was opening without problem, but when opening a project from the list, the editor immediately showed the unity spash or introduction screen and closed in 5 seconds,

    but if I created a new project the editor would open with the new project.
    but in personal or light gray UI . and if i tried to reopen the last "New Project", it will behave the same as it did in the beginning

    After looking around, for many solutions, including uninstalling and installing hub and unity versions, the only thing that worked for me was finding the Unity_lic.ulf file in programData / unity to delete it, reboot, downloaded the latest version of Unity HUB and enter the License again, this solved my problem

    Cannot believe how I have to spend a lot of time daily to open a Unity project, going through signing in, checking verification code, activating licence.. And I think I've got a tendency not to open a new Unity window as much as I want. As a hobbyist myself, I open less and less to aviod the repeatitive tedious page refreshing before getting into the editor to really do something for a project.

    And now I had the same issue, cannot open any projects, after upgraded to Windows 10. Just resolved by renaming/deleting Unity folders in \AppData\Roaming as tarasrng said.

    I really hope Unity can bring back a simple project opening process, it should take as little time as possible. And users can spend all time inside the editor.

    I have just encountered this with the latest update, just installed 2.3.1 now none of my projects will open, managed to create a new project but that wont open through the hub either. Have released and renewed my license, no joy, uninstalled hub, re installed still no joy. Win 10 Unity 2019.3.10f1, hub 2.3.1. Thanks

    None of the described abobe songs and dances helped to resolve the isssue in my case.

    The only thing that did the trick was installing an "old" Unity and re-applying for license there.
    The "old" version is 2018.4.21f1 (64-bit) and it has this magic power to cure the new ones once they stuck.

    I had this same issue, where I could not open old projects, but could start new ones. I could also open a scene directly from Explorer. Any time I would try and open the project from the Hub it wouldn't open. Turns out I had disabled my Ethernet adapter on my PC to debug a WiFi issue, and re-enabling them made it work again.

    The same problem appeared when I changed the LTE modem, it works through a virtual ethernet, but I myself would never have guessed what was the matter! Turning on real ethernet helped, thanks!

    Thank you for your info. Enabling my ethernet adapter got mine working again too.

    I encountered same problem today, can't open existing projects but can create new (and can't re-open the new one). Hub log was indicating something like token expired and unable to renew it this morning. Old log for exact text no longer available because I tried (unsuccessfully) to delete the unity dirs out of %AppData% (windows) as someone suggested above.

    I had disabled my ethernet adapter because my ethernet and wifi connect to the same subnet in my present location and I didn't want my system confused about which one to use. It seems that the Hub isn't smart enough to use a connected adapter and gives up when it looks up the disabled one first.
    -> I was able to re-create the issue by disabling the ethernet adapter again.
    -> I also tested unplugging the ethernet cable with the adapter enabled. This did not cause issues. (inconvenient and causes unnecessary contact wear)
    -> I disabled the ethernet adapter one last time leaving the cable unplugged to make sure it was still reproducible, and the open project issue did recur.

    After the unsuccessful attempt of deleting the dirs out of %AppData%, "Unity Hub" and "UnityHub" both appeared again. Likely a typo on their side as the only thing in the new "Unity Hub" (with a space) is an empty "logs" dir. It had more than that, including .json logs, before dir deletion.

    MY SOLUTION:
    - I had only my ethernet connected to internet. My other wifi device was disabled.
    - I enabled my wifi and.. DONE! My PLUS License and hub working perfect!

    @cassandraL This is a critical failure of the hub, yesterday it worked fine, today it expired the licence and upon re-activation refuses to launch the editor. Someone needs to get on this and resolve it!

    Edit: Adding the hub log and giving a callout to the other mods of the hub forum to get this the attention it requires as it's a breaking change.

    Can we just open the existing project from unity project file? eg: C://project_name/Assests/Scenes/SampleScene
    I can opened project from there event though my unity hub had some complication to open the project file.

    Thank you very much!

    I had same problem: Unity can create projects but it won't open existing projects, and I solved it deleting the license file and reinstalling the hub.

    After that, I had to reactivate my license again and now it works!

    Hello, @URPian

    As of release 2.3.2, the issue is fixed in Unity Hub but now the fixes need to make it into Unity Editor. 2020.2 should already have the fixes. I do not have an estimate for the previous Unity releases right now.
