I am currently seeing the editor crash many times (a day) during play mode (Unity 5.5.5p1 win10).

It could of course be a script in the project causing the editor to crash but I do not know - all I can see in the bug reporter logs is an access violation in unity.exe - is there any way to get a better idea?

Have you considered upgrading Unity version, 5.5x is very old now..

Yes but it depends on other team members spending a lot of time updating Asset bundles as Unity has broken backwards compatibility over time.
But anyway 5.5.x cycle has still been updated with fixes this year

Anyway - the full editor.log has the info in it - the problem was looking at the bug reporter preview it only show the useless part (the first load of lines in the log) not the last section.

Would be good if when Unity crashes it shows the bug reporter tool but also shows you the most useful stuff (the end of the editor log) so you can see where the problem occurred (your code, unity etc.) without digging out the editor log.
