    Hi there,

So I've just installed Unity so I can explore Natural Front. So far....

    1) The first 3d head I tried to create with Natural Front never appeared. The dialog got to 50% quickly, and then vanished with no explanation or head.

    2) On second try the dialog got to 50% quickly, then the beachball spun for 15 minutes with no result. I had to force quit out of Unity, and the force quit dialog reported that Unity was not responding.

The system requirements for Unity stated on the web site say Unity will run on OSX 10.9, but the installer insists you must have at least 10.11. So of course I installed on 10.11. Perhaps my machine is too old (2011 iMac). Here are my machine stats...

    Model Name: iMac
    Model Identifier: iMac12,2
    Processor Name: Intel Core i5
    Processor Speed: 2.7 GHz
    Number of Processors: 1
    Total Number of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
    L3 Cache: 6 MB
    Memory: 16 GB
    Boot ROM Version: IM121.0047.B23
    SMC Version (system): 1.72f2

I don't know where the problem lies, but given the poor results so far I'm thinking of bailing on Unity before wasting more time on it. If you see a solution which should cause me to try again, happy to hear it, and thanks for sharing.

In case it helps, my interest is in Natural Front, face animation. I'm not really interested in the rest of Unity for now. My decision of whether to stay or bail will depend entirely on whether I can get Natural Front to work reliably.

I got pretty much same iMac, and at least Unity 2017.2 version works just fine. Later versions from 2017.3 (or might have been 2017.2.1) up to 2018.1 have just terrible fps in editor, so can't use them until it's fixed.

You can find and download any Unity version from: https://unity3d.com/get-unity/download/archive

Thank you chelnok. Are you using Natural Front?

I've downloaded the installer for 2017.2.

Do I need to remove the version of Unity I have installed (just got it from website over the weekend) and start again from scratch using the 2017 installer?

    Thanks!

To be honest this sounds like the asset itself is the source of the problems. I recommend posting about this in the official thread for the asset and/or contacting the asset developer directly through their support email address on the asset store publisher page.

Aha, yes thanks, that's a thread I need to know about. I'll test a couple more times to confirm the issue and then see what the asset author has to say. Appreciate it!

No need to, it'll be overwritten. However you can keep many versions side by side if you wish, just rename current Unity folder in applications folder to something else than unity, for example unity_2018.2f1 (or whatever the version is)

I haven't try NaturalFront asset. There seems to be free version that i could try, if it works for me to narrow down the problem, if you can't find solution. Post here what you learned from link provided by @Ryiah.

Thanks chelnok. I've contacted the author of Natural Front both privately and publicly so we'll see what comes of that. If he says it will work with the earlier version of Unity, I'll do as you suggest regarding installing Unity again. If he doesn't know, or feels my machine isn't up to the job, I'll be on to uninstalling Unity. Appreciate your assistance!

According to the developer my machine is too old. It looks like the 3d head will process (according to other users with old machines) but it will take an hour or more, something like that. I'll probably let it run today at lunch just to see what the end product looks like. Doubt I'll use it regularly though, and will probably uninstall Unity shortly. There's a competing product which works great on Macs older than mine, so I guess that's where I belong. Thanks again for the assistance above!
