    Updated to an arch so can enjoy the full 360 in sketchfab, off to make more squidgies (fish etc) to go in the scene.

    Forgive me folks i haven't touched 3ds Max so my work is probably not amazing at the moment but here we go.:(

    So far i done a few drawings and kind of made a basic shape of a island. The island i have decided to go with is a sky island. I am doing this for fun anyways, maybe this is a good way to get back into modelling.:rolleyes:

    Anyways alot of work to be done!

    Hi guys, so I've been working on this for a few days give or take, this is what I have so far so I hope you like it, I've never textured before so it'll be fun learning under a deadline, but anyway I'm having a lot of fun with this contest and hope the rest of the modeling and texturing goes well. :)

    @Thomas Pasieka

    Hi. I keep updating now and then (mostly weekends ) my model (same link at the beginning of this tread). I am in the middle of a bulk of work (daywork) and it takes mostly all of my time. I ll try to screenshoot the difuse still in WIP.

    BTW I don't if you notice guys but there are new previz tools under camara inside Sketchfab , bloom, dof and so forth, and I find em quite nice to pretty up your models.

    Looks interesting, I might give it a try if you do another one next month. There would probably be more participants if there was a bigger prize, like a Unity Pro license.

    My modelling is finally finished - now I just hope I can get the texturing done before the deadline! :)

    Thought I'd try showing it off in Sketchfab this time:

    2 random questions that someone may know the answer to:

    1. Where / How is the camera angle decided for the default pose in when uploaded Sketchfab? (Specifically when uploading from Unity)

    2. When baking lightmaps in Beast, the background colour when viewed in the editor is white-ish. When I open them in Photoshop, the background is Black. If I change the bgColor in a custom XML config for Beast... it remains black - the custom bgColor appears to be ignored. Any tips for dealing with this? Or a better method for dealing with EXR files?

    Black surrounding white is causing some horrible lines in the mipmaps for my lighting...

    I really like the trees, jack-o-lantern and vessel you added to to your scene!
    1. You can change the camera angle when you click on settings icon adjust your model turning or zooming and clicking on camera icon Take Screen Shot button and then Save Settings at the top of the page. I am sending you a preview image of my model. :)

    Been rather busy this week, but here is my latest progress on my island. This week i have managed to add the chains to my island and material textures to my models.

    I am currently using Mental ray shaders and been playing around contours shading. The aim to try get a sort of cartoon look but with some detail.

    Last night i struggled to bring in my textures, but lucky i found the Sketchfab uploader. Here is the first upload of my island textured using the uploader.

    Some how my contours are not appearing in Sketchfab, i will investigate. More work to do this weekend, i need to add some details :D.

    Funny you should mention the material editor, I was just playing about with it to test out my solution to my lighting woes!:) (Updated the above WIP)

    Forgive the dodgy mipmapping while it loads, was eager to test a few things out and still need to finalise some of UV's!

    @Sketchfab

    I got this question nagging me for a while. I do remember back to 2012 it was something planned for sketchfab as screen ambient occlusion. But after two years nothing seems to indicate there is intention to implement this. Or RT default shadows? I am asking because the big problem in previewing your model properly in 3d is the lack of shadows or automatic AO that truly pump up the volumes and shapes ;)

    Any information or plans about it would be very appreciate.

    Currently having problems exporting my models from 3ds Max. So Recently i have switched to Maya, sadly that meant i had to apply my material shaders.

    Still at least Maya is easier to use on Mac, since i will be using 100% of my computer resources and not 50% on 3ds max( since i use Parallels).

    Lets see how it goes, for now this my progress. I added a dome building to my island.

    Last WIP post for my entry. Finished the UV's, and gave it a plain colour fill to help me finalise the lighting:

    Now to just finish detailing up the textures :) Plenty of time left...

    And the stream is low poly I take it, judging by the shape.

    Blender seems to be quite nifty program to create lovely poly models. Speaking of which i am going to use blender to make some clouds and then export back into Maya :D.

    Edit: Latest progress. Would be nice if i can sort out the low poly clouds. After that i will see if i have any time left.

    @NomadKing I was looking to your wip about 12mim , admiring, it's so much cool! Thanks man!
    @EMMANEMSAURIO REX how cute? : )

    So, no much progress, shame on me but I think is time to texture now! I'm looking for something very stylized with bright colors ( sounds ridiculos I know )

    I forgot to say that I never used sketchfab.
    See you on friday!

    Hi

    Here is my final model/material

    At the attachments of this post you can find

    • the maps I used. 2K Difuse, 2K normal, and 512x gloss, spec, emission, and lightmap
    • a brochure with screenshots from Sketchfab and Maya.

    Final geometry is 10.5k faces

    To pump up a bit the model I baked a light map with shadows. Also use a bit of mapped emission from the leaves and tips of the grass to emulate subsurface scattering.

    Thanks

    Ricardo

    Hi
    This is my wip of the island, I had little time for this, I hope to finish tomorrow.
