Unity Technologies is happy to announce it's next "Unity Community Forum Challenge"! Everybody is welcome to join in and show other fellow artist what they can do and compete for the First Place!

This months Challenge is themed "Awesome Kart". Ever played Super Mario Kart or Mod Nation Racers or even Looney Tunes Racing? These are just a few examples but you get the idea! We want you to create a "Kart" model of your imagination! Be creative! There is a lot of room for interpretation here! Use your imagination! Let's see something new and fresh!

As a result we want to see a beautiful small Diorama/Turntable of your "Awesome Kart"

Post Work in Progress Screenshots or even use Sketchfab to present your work in progress. See rules below.

    1. Participants will have till the end of the month (March, 31th) to submit their Final Entry

    2. Final Entry must be a "Diorama/Turntable" showcasing the theme "Awesome Kart". We ask that you use Sketchfab to post your final result here on the forum.

    3. Polycount Limitation for this Challenge is 20.000 Vertices. Only ever use as many polygons as necessary to define a shape! This is a game art challenge after all! Make use of normal maps etc to give your textures/meshes more detail.

    4. You can use normal maps, specular maps or PBR etc to enhance your work visually. There is no restriction on how many textures you can use but keep in mind that this is a game art challenge so don't go too crazy.

    5. Entrants must post at least 2 WIP (Work in Progress) Screenshots before submitting their Final Entry. We suggest you post more and get feedback! Please visit https://help.sketchfab.com/hc/en-us/sections/200485707-Uploading-3D-Models for further information on how to use and upload to Sketchfab.

    6. Your final entries must be submitted through Sketchfab. Please tag your final submission with: "UCAC-March2016".

    7. No previous work can be used. This essentially means that you should create everything from scratch!

    8. No nudity or gross violence please! Keep it clean and fun for everyone!

We got some great prizes this month! A big "Thank You" to all the wonderful people/companies! The winners will receive the following prizes:

Reposted thread on cgtalk and polycount.
Gameartisans seems 'off' unwelcome to outside content so I didn't post there.

I had a few people ask me how to join this Challenge. All you have to do is reply to this thread with your screenshots of your work in progress and of course your final work (link to your sketchfab model). That's it :) Hope to see some WIP's here soon! Come on folks!

Also, the theme was announced a week ago. But anyways... looking forward to what people come up with.

Here's the first wip image for my entry. Not entirely sure what I'm going for, just trying to make a badass kart. It's also fully functional, as I'm building it to also be used as a working game asset, not just a static model.

Criticism and suggestions welcome. But the flag stays. trickmywip.png

A wheelie bar and/or brush guard?
A single small shopping cart wheel as a wheelie bar would be fun. :)

    Hello everyone,
    great WIPs so far!
I think I'll participate with this classic race car approach. Hope this isn't too far away from a kart.

@bstout - Yes you can enter with more than one design. Usually Karts have an open cockpit design. Something to keep in mind I'd say.

@praesidenter - Very nice almost classic design right there! Great work so far. Hope to see more soon!

what exactly is considered as a kart?
for example mario kart has motorbikes and hovers etc but they arent really karts
so would it be small cartoony vehicles with a big pilot on it? what about little ships or spaceships ?
just wondering cause i want to make something with hovers

    think something like this

@JeevanjotSingh - It's a nice touch but will not be taken into consideration when judging the Kart. So it's not a "must".

Tweaked the shapes quite a bit and added some more details.
Next step would be some highpoly-details that I'm going to bake afterwards. Though I try to keep everything rather simple here

    Good work everyone so far!

Hello, this is an interresting contest, and i will try to do something fun.

Here are my thoughts on the subject, roughly and not necessarily in the good order =)

I have searched the internet for a kart that would be pretty much be made of bones, to see how original my first idea was and found none so far, so i feel quite good about that part.
Then i also wanted it to be a three wheeler but since a solo front whell would be of poor stability in turns and curves, i prefer to go for a rear solo wheel, it seems that it would be less likely to go wrong.

In any case here is a little sketch i made to start "fleshing" out my concept (i ll let you decide if a pun was intended), i hope this is still within the limitations of this contest.
