    Hello!

Recently i found a torrent website where there are paid unity assets available for free, and it looks like they get downloaded alot. (Not sure if i am allowed to link the website here?)

I think this is annoying since I am making assets myself and put alot of work into them, so shouldn't there be some kind of way to detect if assets have been bought or not when opened inside Unity?

    Might report it to support.

For detection there is not much that can be done. Anyone can export and import the assets to new package and distribute. There is no good way to include license or any other kind of protection to images, source code etc.

Just report it to support@unity3d.com and they will pass it to legal thanks!
As for protection of assets, you can do it if you set up a license server and use a serial ie your asset invoice number with it to cross check (would need a dll to handle it too). Seems like a lot of bother really.

Happens to everybody. I had like 7 sales total shortly after initial release and found a torrent of mine with 60-something seeders and 30-something leechers.

UAS staff is well aware of most of the sites doing it. A lot of links get reported but the threads where we discuss the issue usually boil down to it not being worth the trouble to hunt down links or build in custom security or verification for your asset. 0-day crack releases are basically commonplace these days and people are going to host it on torrents or tons of mirrors eventually. Honestly the best antidote is to probably just release updates frequently so the regular pirate users have incentive to buy it to stay up to date instead of waiting for a pirated shared version update.

Look, people will pirate it either way. Pirates are not customers.

However, if someone has the guts to publish a game created using pirated assets that calls for legal action. IMO.

you'd think developers would be better then the average person (in terms of not pirating) but its not the case. I have to wonder if pateron is not a better solution although support would be a nightmare and probably not worth it.

What hippo said, contact us with the link and we can send it to our legal team, if you are the owner of an Asset that is being linked on a pirate site you can issue a DMCA takedown. http://www.dmca.com/

One thing to keep in mind about pirates. If they are cheap enough to steal your content, they wouldn't have purchased it in the first place. Or in other words, if they had no way to torrent and steal your work, there is only a very small chance they would have purchased it anyway.

People pirate because they think it makes them look smart, cool, tough, and computer savvy but it really makes them look like they need to go outside and play.

Closed because of copy/paste topic. No duplicate topics, and if you're a spambot, you will be exterminated.
