Was just wondering to what extent does the linux port of unity rely on the wine libs?
Noticed wine installed on my system, uninstalled it and no more unity :(

Even Monodevelop wouldn't run, not sure but I think monodevelop has a full native linux version.

Are You sure that while removing Wine You or system didn't remove any library that supposed to be "no longer needed" ?
Looking at Unity deb package, there is nothing even remotely attached to Wine, so it seems weird.

This is what first crossed my mind too. It must be a dependency that Unity, MonoDevelop, and Wine use. I'm pretty sure the ".Net" Wine depends on is Mono, which is the first thing that comes to mind that all 3 have in common. So, I wonder if you should check if Mono is still installed. I'd bet that's the culprit.

If you used aptitude uninstall or something to remove it, it also removes orphaned libraries (packages with no depending packages). If this didn't uninstall the Unity package I guess they're a bit hackish and don't include their Mono dependencies. Nothing keeps Mono on the system if Unity was installed directly from a tarball/custom installer either.

Ha! I did forgot Mono, but it's provided by Unity so it's kinda weird ( it's not in dependencies for Unity ), but someone in this forum wrote that MonoDevelop installed with Unity didn't work until he installed version from repository.

So yes, maybe installing libmono + mono + monodevelop may do the trick.

BTW image28 check dependencies of Unity in this topic ( + npm package )

Yeah, I'd install the whole shebang to be on the safe side :)

Installing a regular version of MD at least ensures that cleanup scripts don't accidentally remove Mono again later.

Yeah reinstalled an runs without wine, seemed to be something the beta environment I'm using had done with the menu links. Had me scared for a minute there.
