Unity Ad 2.0.4 Crashes Playing Audio after Rewarded

    Hi, i am having an issue where i am playing a resurrection audio after the player uses rewarded AD, the function works fine if i call it out of ad callback, but if i call it after the ad completes , i am not able to play the audio and the game freezes on that line.

    This works well in editor, but fails in android after debugging i found out the error only happens after i watch ad on android device.

    I have the exact same issue. After returning to the game after the ad has completed, it crashes out when trying to play the "reward obtained" audio from the resultCallback when ShowResult.Finished.

    The issue appears to be related to calling the audio not from the main thread, for some reason. I'm using il2cpp and Android, with Unity 5.4.1 and Unity Ads 2.0.4.

    Here is some logcat info.

    This happens when the video ad is playing:

    After the Unity errors above, a lot of other messages are shown, including a google mini-dump. After all the gibberish, this is shown:

    And the game closes down, showing the Android message ÿour app has crashed".

    Just complementing my previous post, here is my take on a possible cause for this problem: looks like playing a sound in a coroutine just after the ad has played is the culprit. Perhaps the coroutine is being put in a different thread for some odd reason?

    I reproduced this on a test project and found a workaround until we fix this.

    This code reproduces the issue:

    Mikaisomaa, the workaround solved the issue. Should be an easy fix for 2.05. :)

    Problem still exists for Unity 2017.3 and Google Mobile Ads SDK 3.10 (IL2CPP)

    Code that I have used:
    private void HandleOnAdVideoRewarded(object sender, Reward args)
    {
    rewardVideoOnAdRewarded -= HandleOnAdVideoRewarded;
    dataStore.CurrencyCount = doubledReward;
    audioManager.PlaySound("item_collected");
    }​

    I'm going to try workaround with Coroutine.

    Solved with Coroutine and unsubscribing to the events in the OnDestroy function with -=

    public void OnDestroy()
    {
    rewardBasedVideo.onAdRewarded -= HandleRewardBasedVideoRewarded;
    }

    Yeah, did the same thing with admob and unity 2017.3. Coroutine resolved it too But it's a ugly workaround guys, i'm calling the audio from action on OnApplicationPause method.

    Unity 2018.1, Google Mobile Ads Unity Plugin v3.13.1.
    PS: workaround works.

    Yup! I actually started getting similar crashes again so I switched from .NET 4.x and IL2CPP, to .NET 3.5 and IL2CPP and the crashes kept happening. I went back to .NET 3.5 and Mono and now the crashes are gone. Don't think I'll be using IL2CPP and I guess .NET 4.x anytime soon for this project. :(

    Since this thread is a bit old, any issues you encounter today are probably not the same issues from this thread. If you are getting ads-related crashes in your game, could you create a new thread and provide more details. Specifically, it would be helpful to know:
    • Are you building your game with Unity, XCode, or Android Studio?
    • If Unity, which version are you using?
    • Which version of the Ads SDK are you using?
    • Can you share the code you are using to integrate Unity Ads?
    • Can you provide a device log from your app when Unity Ads is initialized?
    • Are you using mediation? If so, which version of the mediation SDK and adapter are you using?
    • How pervasive is this problem? Is it reproducible 100% of the time or do you have metrics on how often it happens?
