You might want to word that sentence a little better for others to understand it. :D

I mean show us UT5 Free feature and price as some of us don't have sold a game that would allow us to buy some Pro license.

I think the word you're looking for is not "deceiving" but rather "teasing".

The free version of Unity 5 will be available upon 5.0 release. Looking as we're about in "release candidate 2" right now... that shouldn't be too far away.

and after the initial release, that's when my hopes get high for even better graphics, right?

Not sure if I understood the question. If you're asking "will the graphics team stop working after 5.0 is out?", then the answer is "no" :)

What I meant was we should be expecting more image effects and AA as post 5.0 release not far from the initial release version.

    You could be surprised.
But even if there was no changes UT will always remain one of the most easy to learn and use.
I hope new Pbr system and tools will be in that same phylosophy.

    They did throw us something.
"When it's ready" is a perfectly sane answer.

During that year we did make 20 alpha builds, and 22 beta builds, and two "release candidate" builds. Now, the "release candidate" is probably an indication that maybe, just maybe, the actual release isn't very far away.

From what is going on with UT5 Beta, i think UT5 will be released to the public at June or Summer.
There is still lightmapping and Enlighten problems like graphic ones or more technical like too long times to bake lightening, and some other problems.
March release would be too short, i think it will be June during some of the Unite presentations or summer ?

About foliage, does UT5 will bring trensluent lightening like UE4 last release ? And keeping also a good performance for outdoors ? Or will we have to rely on the Asset Store for that ?

I really hope UT5 to research some real time GI like Crysis can do , this would remove the baking sessions and would allow real time visualisation of the final result.

About pricing no confirmation or annoucements before Unite right ?
I'm ok with Unity today pricing , but perhaps some changes will be announced ? .

It seems extremely unlikely that there will be any pricing changes. They have been actively pre-selling Unity 5 for quite a while now and it hasn't actually shipped. If they did a price cut, they would upset a lot of folks. Actual paying customers.

Is many time waiting, possibly use a third solution as Enlighten was not a good idea.

They've offered refunds in the past such as when they made Unity Indie into a free product. I don't believe there will be pricing changes though. It simply works too well as a pricing model.

Unity 5 is a crazy big release and therefore it takes time. I'm actually happy for each and every month that goes into polishing, optimization and quality control instead of having to live with a rushed product.
I'm proud of UT for not sticking strictly to their every-other-year cycle for major versions and instead showing the flexibility and courage to give this release enough time (hopefully).

But I fear UT will be forced to release Unity 5 in the near future due to business and technical reasons. I still could wait happily for several months to get the production release of 5.0 but I don't think I have to.

Drop price and refund is not the style of Unity, I think that a intermediate version will be appear like the old "Unity Indie" with a affordable price for indie developers.

I'm not fussed on a price variation, I'm just very concerned that they are aiming for a GDC announcement and release before the software is ready - last month I would have said we were at least 3 - 6 months away from a RC, based on how many problems are consistently cropping up with Enlighten and other core systems.

But sadly, this would have all been decided many months ago, so there's not much we can do about it... Unity has built up quite a bit of anticipation and goodwill recently which I'd hate to see come undone by releasing an undercooked and unfinished final release. Because that is what they will be judged on, regardless of how hard they work in the next few months on patch releases and updates.

The issue is not the price, Unity is so appropriated for indies, a lot make and sell games, Unity is just successfull.

I worry more about Enlighten long baking times , lightmapping not fast also , or graphics baking problems.
I think they should not rush up and take the time and try improving these things, so some June moths for the relesae date in some Unite presentation makes sense.

It took so long , and very problematic, they should had made their own solution and be inspired by Crysis 3 real time GI instead, perhaps it would not have been as best as baking , but no baking times and real time results.
Real time GI is the next big graphic thing people will look at, because of it's advantages for real time games.
When Epic will propose real time GI, lot of people will look at it for big game projects.
I hope Unity will make it's own real time GI and will drop Enlighten some day or keep it as an optionnal rendering system.

I'm not sure about some intermediate version , half price, it is still too much for lot of indies using UT Free or other 3D engines, for some projects limited features are not possible and a full pro license is needed also, so people will take a cheap alternative some times.
Royalties could have been an option, but perhaps it's not a so good system for Unity.

the three you mentioned are basically the same thing, lightmapping not done correctly in a reasonable time.

I disagree, Enlighten has been doing a great job with realtime GI (Battlefield 4 for instance), the implementations however and baked lightmapping can be improved, and CTO of unity said that there are improvements in the upcoming patch releases that should decrease bake times.

Better recheck, already out of beta and already on the last release candidates just before release (probably in a week or two)

They have it working for their big game indeed, they could put hours or multiple servers to bake the lightening, but many small indies making smaller games would need faster baking, or some preview mode going very fast and displaying approximative. If improvments in baking time or some preview mode would come it's a good point.

It's software world, i prefer to think in longer delays and there is no deception.
I have some prototype using PBR, but i won't go lot further on it before public realease and price or features annoucements. So i stick with 4.6 for other non PBR games prototypes and for mobile games.

    Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has info about unity5 "mutli-threading".
Is it going to be just the editor that works on multi-threading? Or will we be able to launch unity API safe multi-threads?

PS: being a newbie developer, try to answer this with easy words for me to understand :)

Happy dev to all of you!

Nope. Scripting-side multi-threading is the same.
