Don't know if this is the right place to ask. Before I download Unity 5 , I wanted to know if I could import what I already did in Unity 4 into a new Unity 5 project?

You can just make a copy of you project and open it in unity 5, stuff may break or need to be changed a bit but its worth a try.

Also I wanna uninstall my version of unity to free up some space on my computer for Unity 5. If I just save the project I want to import and delete Unity 4( which the project is on) , will that disrupt the importation of the project on Unity 5. To sum it up can I delete Unity 4 without any stuff happening to the project I want to import on Unity 5?

I have upgraded my project to UNITY 5 and there a few broken things here and there to fix, no big deal, but I cant seem to turn on Shadows ?

I can make shadows on a new U5 Project but not on my upgraded project :|

Dang that sucks , do you NEED the shadows?, if not scrap them. Also how did you upgrade your project to 5?

Unity (the application) and Unity Projects are completely separate. You can delete either one and the other will still be there.

You should be sure to backup your project before upgrading it to Unity 5, just in case something goes wrong.

Update the project to Unity 5 by opening it in Unity 5.

Ok thanks, I did a search on the legacy animation and it seems it's still there.

In general your class and your script file hast to have the same name.
If you like to rename a class / script file, you can open the script in Monodevelop:
    Right-click on the class name
    Refacture -> Rename

Mono-develop will rename the script file according to your new class name and will fix all references to that class in your project.

@XCO , My shadows don't show up in Unity 5 because I'm using a custom matrix projection for my camera, and I'm not sure what Unity is doing that causes this issue. Are you using a custom camera projection matrix by any chance?

@tomowale , yeah forgot to quote the correct person.

Hey sorry, I dont know what that camera is, I am just using a regular camera. :|

Are we suppose to able to upgrade without any issues ? UNITY 5 is awesome, but I find everything to be very slow right now, (Im working on a huge project) and I cant tell if its cause of the shadows, since i never had access to them before ? I dont know whats going on...

Every update between Unity numerical numbers, e.g. Unity 4 to Unity 5, will always have issues because these are major releases that change/optimize/add/remove the way things work behind the scenes in the engine. Unity 5 has an auto-updater that they added to help update from Unity 4 to Unity 5, but watching the 2nd dev video here, the company mentions they said no to the option and manually upgraded their code, so they have a better understanding of why certain features and things weren't working. You might want to give that a try.

@XCO Simply select a default shader for the material that wont "SHADOW", did that fix it? it's your shaders.
Also: your project runs like treacle you say. Open the profiler. look why.

    Cheers.

In general to ACTUALLY answer the thread post.

Make a copy of the 4.x project folder

Install 5 (it can be done side-by side with 4)

tell it to open the project in the new copy of the 4.x project

It will rip through the code and update a few references (mainly deprecated calls and replacements for the old slow Component lookups), stuff may need fixing at that point.

NOTE: if you NEED to edit the files and for some insane reason you can't (say you ended up setting up VS as your editor and this project doesn't have the right project files in yet - I have done this) then just open them in NOTEPAD or w/e and make the fix then save.

    Wait.

Your new project should open. Further details on likely errors are posted everywhere else many times.

Sufficed to say it is pretty painless and non invasive.

    Cheers.
