Unity 5 personal does not launch past project select.

    He said it stopped on a blue screen for a little while and then finally loaded up, did you exit too early?

    I had the same experience I've been having all along. Click on a project,sometimes it shows a progress bar for loading the assets, then nothing. I never saw a blue screen and let the process go for a long time.

    Also made a new user account on my computer and tried to run it from there just in case something's wrong with my profile. Didn't work there either. I'm glad some people are finding solutions to this, but on the other hand none of the solutions are working for me and the less people with this problem the less likely Unity is to try to fix it :/

    Ouch. I was near the end of a project in Unity 5 slated for release in early April and now I'm stuck with this problem out of the blue. Everything worked fine this morning, then all the sudden this afternoon I can't even get a new project to load in Unity 5, and this thread describes my exact issues. Very abrupt onset to this issue, as I hadn't rebooted, installed anything new, or really edited much on the project this morning.

    My Unity 4.6 is working fine. Unity 5 gives me the splash screen, then the project selection screen. However, whatever I choose (new or existing project) results in the Unity.exe process hanging. Exploring the process and "analyzing the wait chain" confirms previous reports that there are threads waiting for network i/o. Firewall on/off makes no difference, anti-virus off, anti-malware off, nothing new installed, multiple reboots, etc. None of these things have helped.

    I'll be exploring whatever options I can to restore my Unity 5 project, and will post any and all results once I get the free time tackle this new issue. Thanks to everyone who posted so far; looking forward to seeing this resolved for all.

    EDIT: and all is well. Gave it a half hour of running the process and all the sudden it popped up. Craziness. Hope you all have similar luck!

    Wow. I'm not sure if I've ever let it run for a half an hour without restarting my computer,but I kind of thought I had. If you exit Unity now and open it again, do you have to wait that long or does it open right back up?

    I'm so desperate to get it working that I'm almost done preparing for a clean Windows install. But I might as well install 5 one last time and leave it running overnight and see if it's there in the morning. Either way, the 30 minute hang doesn't really sound like something that would be wrong with our computers.

    What in the world??

    I just installed Unity 5 one last time just to see if letting it sit there for another half an hour would work...and it opened instantly!

    The only two things I did differently this time:
    1) Installed it to ProgramFiles\Unity5 rather than just ProgramFiles\Unity
    2) After running the main installer, ran the standard assets installer.

    I also uninstalled a few programs to make room for my backup archives, but they were almost entirely games.. Nothing I could dream would interfere with Unity.

    Things I uninstalled:
    Silent Hill 3
    X Edit (guitar effect pedal editor)
    Some midi playback engines for an older version of Finale
    Apple mobile something something and Apple software update services ( the only thing that I could even imagine could be related)
    Edit: Forgot, also uninstalled Java GlassFish server. I installed this by accident once when installing a JDK and never removed it until yesterday. I guess this could have conflicted as well, although I don't think I ever actually ran it or set it up.

    Hopefully I won't have another case of it suddenly not working. Either this is some kind of massive coincidence or someone at Unity fixed whatever network request the program was waiting for on their end?

    Lavasoft Web Companion > Remove it. Any other Web Redirect type softwares or Lavasoft Products. Worked for me. Hope it helps.

    That sucks :/ I honestly have no idea what fixed it for me. Look around in your list of uninstalled programs and uninstall anything you don't need, and see if that fixes it. Particularly if you have iTunes, try uninstalling everything related to that in case that was what helped me.

    So... can I kill the process?... No.

    So... Apple Application Support... Apple Mobile Device Support... Quicktime... Itunes... Apple Software Update... Bonjour...au revoir!....

    Try loading the example game project... *waiting*
    Try opening a new project with standard assets....*waiting*

    So I now have a brace of indestructible Unity processors occupying half a gig of memory and doing.... nothing.

    So not fixed... and probably not Apple Inc.

    I found a solution for my case:

    it was the same problem, imposible to kill the process, and unity was not loading, but testing i realize that minutes after reloading the sistem, unity load fully, but closing it again and trying to reopening it get stuck again.

    in my case i deactivate : Bluetooth Media Service, Bluetooth OBEX Service Bluetooth Device Monitor and intel centrino wireless bluetooth. and unity is working fine.

    the problem is in some kind of process or service i think so, at least in my case.

    tenia el mismo problema, imposible de terminar el proceso, y unity no cargaba, pero testeando me di cuenta que despues de reiniciar el sistema, unity cargaba completamente, pero cerrandolo y reabriendolo se volvia a pegar y no cargaba.

    en mi caso desactive: Bluetooth Media Service, Bluetooth OBEX Service and Bluetooth Device Monitor. ahora unity funciona bien.

    el problema esta en algun proceso o servicio eso creo, al menos en mi caso

    I have this issue as well. It was working one day, and now its not. Even older versions. The only difference was I had updated to 5.0.1. I rolled back, still with the issues.

    I had the same problem the OP mentioned. None of the above has worked for me.

    While rebooting my PC for the xth time, i saw that some application still tried to access the internet but couldn't.
    So i went on a hunt and searched for anything internet related inside the unity install folder. The magic word "proxy" was a good find. I found "unityiproxy" and checked if it is on the windows firewall exception list.
    Of course it was not, so i added it and guess what....IT WORKS!

    The location of the file is: Editor\Data\PlaybackEngines\iossupport\Tools\OSX

    Let's hope it's also a fix for you guys!

    Same is happening to me.

    Downloaded and installed Unity 5.0.1f1 64 bits Personal. I could use it for a few days, then I shut down my computer, restarted and started seeing the problem. Unity shows the "Select Project" screen then after choosing -either New Project or a Creating a New one- I can only see a small "Compiling X..." screen -which shows for a frame of a second- and then nothing. The process is unkillable.

    First I found this thread on May 1st and tried one of the solutions: downloading Unity 5.0.1f1 32 bits. And after installing (and maybe a few attempts if I recall correctly), it worked. So I kept my computer on (using Sleep mode) and I could work from May 1 to May 14 (two weeks). Then the Unity process hang on so I had to reboot... and this thime nothing worked.

    I've tried uninstalling the 64bits and 32 version. Deleting all Registry, etc. I have installed the new version 5.0.2f1 (both 64 and 32 bits) and uninstalled like 10-20 times with no luck. Turned off firewall and antivirus and still no luck.

    I am thinking of installing Unity 4.x, but it would be nice if someone can help with this. I can't understand why Unity suddenly stops working and won't launch past project select... Any help is appreciated.

    Specs:
    Intel Core i7 3520M
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 635M, HD Graphics 4000
    8GB RAM
    Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64 bits

    Unfortunately, most of the people myself included who had this problem and solved it don't really know what helped. I was so desperate that I was about to reinstall Windows, and started uninstalling a few random things before doing it. All I can suggest is to make sure Windows Firewall and any antiviruses are temporarily disabled, uninstall everything you don't need from your computer, and see if that helps. This is a really nasty bug, but I have no idea what causes it or fixed it

    It finally worked for me again (Unity 5.0.2f1 32-bit on Win 7 64-bit)!

    I tried a ton of things: updating NVIDIA drivers, Windows updates, deleting Unity... and probably this made the difference (thanks to karl.jones - http://forum.unity3d.com/posts/2119958/ ): deleting the directory C:\Program Data\Unity

    What version of Unity are you using?
    Can you post the editor log?
    What have you tried so far?
    Has Unity ever worked on the machine, what licence did you use(free/pro)?
    Mac or windows?

    i uninstall and install the audio drivers. this works for me. my error log says FMOD failed to initialize... if anyone have the same error this can fix it

    I might just post my problem here as well as it seems pretty much the same. I've tried using Unity 5 Personal ever since its release to find it won't launch past the Project Select window (plus it takes about 15 minutes to launch that window). Even after endless reinstalls nothing changed.

    I've tried everything mentioned in this thread as well as other threads without any succes. Analyzing the process running in the background tells me a few threads are stuck waiting for network I/O... and since my latest reinstall (5.0.2 32-bit) the process just stops and disappears after a while.

    Specs:
    Windows 8.1 x64
    Intel Core i7 - 4700MQ cpu, 2,40 GHz
    8 gb RAM
    NVidia GeForce GT 755M
    The latest 4.6 and older versions of Unity worked fine.

    I have tried uninstall and reinstall I have tried downgrading I have tried -force-opengl
    I have tried -force-d3d11. When I first got Unity 5 I was like wow this so amazing and it worked I
    started learning C# and making a 2d game etc ,but sometime 2 weeks ago it stoppped working.
    Things which have changed (thinking) oh yea theres been a windows update ( I'm on windows 8.1 64 bit )
    and theres been a Nvidia driver update the GTA V one both of the updates i have done.
    I think I have an idea for the problem in the crash log for system info it says this:

    I had the exact same problem as described here (editor not opening) but I managed to get it work!

    I put my laptop to sleep mode after trying to open a project (which didn't show up of course, and the unkillable process in the background...) and when I opened it again the editor appeared! Tell me if that works for you guys!

    Maybe you should try that multiple times (~3 times)

    Because for me it took a couple of times until I got the editor fully working. And still after I boot up my computer I need that sleep mode trick to get the editor show up...

    By the way I'm using Unity version 5.0.2p3 (64 bit).

    If that doesn't work then I'm out of ideas :/

    Sorry for the delay. I'm using Unity 5.0.2f1 Personal.
    Windows 7 (64-bit)
    How can I post my editor log? It's a file? Where it is located?
    It works sometimes but in other times the editor doesn't appear.
    I use a free license.

    The Sleep trick the dude above said makes it work, but it's kind a hassle if I need to do that everytime.

    It's weird, but everyone seems to have completely different solutions. I suddenly got Unity 5 to work after I switched to a different antivirus program!

    @WicketSick Nothing stands out in the log file. Devo's suggestion about anti virus is interesting, what av are you using? Are you storing your Unity projects in the Unity installation directory?

    I'm not using an AV. I am storing the projects on another folder, but that doesn't matter, after the launcher it doesn't open the editor unless I put my computer to sleep and come back.
    I don't know if it's related, but I have Ubuntu installed too, it's a dual boot computer, so after the sleep I need to select the O.S. again at the launcher so the Windows can continue.

    @MichaelDShark it looks like an audio issue. Try reinstalling your audio drivers as ponx2110 suggests earlier in the thread.

    Sadly it did not work , Unity 5.0.2f still crashes after launching a project , do have any more links maybe video ones cause maybe I just did it wrong.
