Unity 5 on MacBook Air and Macbook Pro?

    Hi. I have to buy a new MacBook to run Unity 5 because my 2007 MacBook Pro is too old and no longer supported. I have to decide on buying a new MackBook Pro or MacBook Air to run Unity 5. My iMac is my primary development machine, but I need a MacBook to be mobile and attend classes, etc.

    Can someone out there please tell me how well Unity 5 works on your MacBook Air or Pro? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    I have a MacBook Pro 13'' retina late 2013, 2.4GHz i5 and Intel Iris. Performance-wise it works smoothly but then again I don't work on very big projects. MonoDevelop boots up a bit slowly and after a couple of hours gets a bit slow to respond, as if it's having memory leaks or something so requires a reboot. But it's not all that bad performance wise, but someone who works on huge projects might give you better feedback.
    For me, by far the greatest frustration is not having retina support in editor.

    I've been rocking a Macbook Pro 15" retina late 2013, 2.4ghz i7 16gb 512 ssd model for the better part of a year now and it's been handling everything I throw at it, Unity 4.6 ran very nicely on it, I've not noticed 5 giving me any trouble either, I run a ton of vmware fusion vm's on it for coding in windows 8.1 from visual studio 2013 up to vs 2015 on windows 10 with unity 5 on all those, haven't noticed anything that i'd complain about at all.

    a macbook air only has 4gb of ram so I'd likely rule that out right now, you won't beable to do any type of serious dev with that little ram I wouldn't think... anyways thats my 2 cents worth.

    have a Macbook Pro 13" retina early 2015, i5 16gb 512 ssd, iris 6100, and unfortunately the interface looks 10% scrambled in pixels. it does look correctly if i hover my mouse over the scrambled parts, but highly unusable though.

    Never heard of that before. Maybe send in a bug with some screenshots, and as much information about your OS setup as possible. Sounds like a graphics driver issue.

    hmmm, i on occasion get this in other programs not usually unity though..ie if im running Andy my android emulator it has a habbit of messing up the screen rather often.

    Same issue here, Retina MacBook Pro Early 2015 13" with Iris (6100 I think?) Graphics, OSX 10.10.3. It doesn't really break anything, and the editor itself looks fine, minus the no-retina. Also, it's only the launcher that is garbled up (and as summerian mentions, mousing over the garbled text makes it look right for a sec).

    Edit: To actually contribute to the original question, Unity runs great on the aforementioned MacBook Pro. Unity 4 and 5 run without any issues; I haven't tested the full deferred path, but I don't see why it wouldn't work, and all the GI etc works like a charm. I do recommend the Pro over the Air, partly for the better RAM options (8 and 16GB vs 4 and 8 GB) and mostly for the massively, massively better screen. The 13" screen is made to look like it's 1280x800 by default, which is pretty lame, but on the Retina MacBooks you are able to set display scaling so that it 'looks like' a higher res at a small (negligible difference as far as I can tell) performance hit. I keep mine scaled to look like 1440x900 and have no issues.

    And what do you think about new retina Macbook 12" (especcially 1.3Ghz version) ? will it be possible to be second developing machine ?
