As I saw, that now all features are included in free, I feel a little bit bad for the guys who pre ordered because of Unity 5. I wanted to go pro with Unity 5 cause of the missing features within Unity 4. I am super happy I did not. Because all I need is now in Unity 5 free.

If I did send 1500€ on pro now, I would be some kind of upset. But since I didn't I say: Thank you Unity! I am so excited to try and have fun with Unity 5 now!

edit: Just read about the possible refund for effected people!

Anyone who pre-ordered Unity 5 and no longer wants the pro version can get a refund.

I leased the Pro version. It was on 4.5 or 6 when my lease started 3 or four months back. Can I get out of that monthly lease? Thanks!

It's kind of genius how they handled the free/pro split.
You can create anything you could in Pro now in Free, but there's still tons of value in getting Pro (also, no more separate Pro's under 100k if I'm understanding correctly? That makes it even more awesome).

As a freelance contractor I am extremely pleased. However I haven't been able to download the installer for 40 minutes now. The server may be getting hammered but I get sent to register when i have been registered for years..but only one out of four tries..I imagine it will settle down.. I just hope I can:)

Hmm, ironic that the form that you can fill in to receive a refund is not found on the server...

Hopefully this will put an end to all of the posts whining about graphics quality I've seen in the 14 months I have been around here. That's a great thing! Plus maybe if people don't need to spend so much time making these great looking graphics they will start spending more time on the game itself! Should be an interesting year!

no doubt, the people crying for pro to be free have had their wish pretty much granted...

.. and after some thought, I guess I'm not as disappointed with the pro sub/perpetual offering.

the team capability will be really helpful, and I'm very curious about this "Asset Store level 11" biz...

How do we change where GI Cache is stored? We're not in the world of the C drive anymore...

The fact that their servers are being CRUSHED right now is encouraging... Lots of excited people wanting to dig into PBS and GI, I'm sure.

The fact that I can't reach the licensing server is keeping me honest at work and focused on what I SHOULD be doing instead.

Ya I feel your pain. I installed Unity 5 then selected Personal edition and hit Activate and still waiting for it to register. Oh well, shouldn't be a surprise as I'm sure there server is just swamped with downloads and/or activations.,

Download link has been up since at least 10AM EST or so this morning, so I am glad I beat the rush. Haven't run it yet, but won't be able to touch it until next week due to other things going on.

I'm still going to stick to 4.6 for the current tool I'm working on. But that's just to insure backwards-compatibility. I'll be downloading Unity 5, and beginning the porting process as well. Very excited to have a lot of the Pro-only features available in the free version. Render-to-texture and a few of the more esoteric network features will be very useful for some of the projects that I'm planning on making.

A big thank-you to the whole Unity team! You're helping to enable all of us small-time developers and hobbyists, as well as the more graphically-focused larger teams!

Got some heat at work because of that announcement... my day job is unrelated to game development and a hearty "F*** YEAH!" grabbed unwanted attention and questions about what I was watching.

Man, Unity Personal feels like such a steal. Such an amazing product. I'd happily pay for it. I donate 5€ to blender foundation every month, I could easily pay at least that for Unity Personal. If there was some service in between Pro and personal, that would be great.

Didn't even bother. I've tried UE4 before and it is not for me, simply put. :)

It's awesome for someone like me. Hobbyist been working on a project for 18 months, unlikely to ever reach pro levels of income.

I was hyped just for PBS + IBL + GI. That alone will make a huge difference. But image effects, shadows etc on top of that is amazing.

Currently backing up my project, then I'll see what breaks moving to 5.0. It's a no brainer to update even if I have to make lots of fixes.

    Thanks Unity team!

The extra graphics parts aren't things I really need for my current projects, but the 64-bit editor and the extra optimising tools are going to be very useful. Thanks, Unity!

I'm going to stick to 4.6 in the meantime, at least until traffic is back to normal :D

Yes, there's been a number of fixes. Most of those unrelated to the Personal Edition have been released as RC3+.

It's in the works as part of the il2cpp initiative. With il2cpp freeing us of the Mono dependency on runtime platforms, we can finally move things forward more aggressively there.

You can deploy to mobile with both personal and pro without purchasing the mobile add-ons. The feature delta has been removed. Without purchasing the add-ons, you will not be able to alter the splash screen, however.

I am totally fine to pay 75 for pro version... but those iOS and android PRO license now looks overpriced, 75 + 75 just for splash screens... wow expensive.... :( but i need that feature for client projects :(

There's never been any such promise, especially since Unity 4.4 didn't exist (except for console developers).

Anyway, it's a trivial thing but I'm glad we have "proper" names now; you can say Pro and Personal, whereas before we had Pro and just Unity, which was awkward, so we had to say "Unity Free" even though it wasn't actually called that. ;)
