Unity 5.6f3 Vulkan OpenVR Windows support

I've spent this weekend since Friday night trying to get 5.6 to output a build with Vulkan and OpenVR support to give my VR simulation a performance boost but I've run into issues with executables displaying any VR content in the Vive HMD.

I can see head tracking in my scene from moving the HMD on the monitor but I get the empty loading room in Vive. It suddenly occurred to me while scouring for limited support info that SteamVR Unity asset hasn't been updated since end of February and most likely an update to SteamVR in Unity will be required to unlock Vulkan APIs and properly display scene in HMD.

I've tried everything including deleting all other graphics APIs from the Build Settings > Other Settings > Graphics API list except Vulkan and still no success.

Has anyone managed on getting Vulkan working with OpenVR on Windows?

 

Yep. It doesn't work. I had the same result. In another thread I believe someone from Unity mentioned that it wasn't yet supported and that a SteamVR update will be needed for this. The ball could be in Valve's court, but I'm not sure.

 

Hey, just wanted to add that it's not working either in Rift.

Once I deploy for Rift, the Oculus setup doesn't recognizes the game as VR.
