Unity 5.4.0f3 - Android light probes broken?

    Light probes seem to be broken on android builds - using opengl 2.0 and 3.0 on a range of devices. It plays correctly in editor, and also works properly on our tests iOS devices (lowest device tested, ipad2 - also running on opengl 2.0)
    Is there a setting somewhere that I'm not aware of that would make light probes work correctly on android? It seems that the builds have lightprobes in ( lower fps when light probes are present in scene than when they aren't) but non static objects do not react to them.
    Searching around on forums/answers and general google searches yields nothing ...
