HI, I've had this same issue since I first downloaded Unity 5.3.4.f1. I've reported the issue twice, and tried switching on and off Alpha Numeric Sorting as older forums suggested since this same issue has apperently existed in earlier versions but Nothing works and I can't use Unity at all.

    Issue:

I open an empty unity 3d project. If I press play now it doesn't freeze but as soon as I place any 3d object in the scene the program freezes and I can't get a bug report. I'm forced to Force Quit Unity every time.

I Use a Mac book pro with OS X version 10.9.5. I've never had this issue in Unity 4.3 which is what I was using before.

Dos anyone else have this issue and how do we fix it????

Is there an update coming up soon by any chance?

I was having the same issues and was surprised they were billing it as stable. Not only was I have the same freezes/crashing with no way of debugging, I also had incredibly slow performance when it was working. I also had similar issues when trying 5.4 beta. I simply downgraded back to 5.3.2p1 which has been incredibly stable for me. I couldn't be hassled with trying to figure out something so cryptic.

I am using Windows 8.1 however and not Mac OS X.

I'm glad you found a solution to the problem. I hope this works for Mac as well because theres nothing more frustrating then being stuck like this. I will try and downgrade to 5.3.2p1 and will post if it works.

    Dang it. No such luck:

5.3.2p1 does the same thing. I tried twice and the second time it shut down my entire computer not just Unity.

I've read forums that mention this issue all the way back to 5.2 versions.

Does anybody from Unity support read this?
