unity 4.1 Mecanim clarifications and questions.

    Good afternoon so far i'm currently experimenting with my project and trying out some of the new features that where added in mecanim from the version 4.1 and up. looking through the manual i have been trying to figure out how to use some functions in which are:
    Animator.StartPlayback(), StopPlayback(), StartRecording() and StopRecording().

    on the other hand i am attempting to do a melee combat system a bit more based with physics if possible, eigther way i started with animations.

    for example let's say i'm swinging a sword from the right towards the left and somehow i connected with a hard object, the idea would be to stop at that frame and rewind the animation. besides in other cases depelopers probably do a hitback animation or so.

    still i'm trying to figure out how those functions are used inside mecanim if anyone could provide some guidance.
