no the upgrade is not reversible
don't upgrade without a backup or do so at the risk of having a nice remaining week redoing all your work

Still not working for me. It does connect more often, but keeps telling me my serial number is not valid on the internet activation. (it is still having connecting problems though) Also, through the manual method, it keeps going to an empty page or says denied activation, as well, all pages take FOREVER to load. I can understand that because of a lot of people trying to connect to it, but it should be able to handle a lot of connections, the only reason it should be this slow is if the same servers that are hosting the file download are hosting the activation process... Which it shouldn't be this way to avoid slowdowns like that.

I didn't see an option to install the bootcamp demo? Where is that and does it include the source?

If you want to keep your old install of 2.6.x, simply rename that folder to Unity_26 or Unity_whatever and then install the new one.

Something to do with the copy protection, where it would be bad for Unity Pro if it wasn't necessary in Free.

When I try to validate Unity 3 free I now get the following: "The serial number you entered is not valid. Please recheck the serial number and try again. To get a trial, contact support@unity3d.com". Sent a mail to the support... poor them, they're flooded.

Somewhat managed to activate the 30 days Pro trial earlier before (serial number starting with T3-...) but I need Unity free in order to purchase iOS basic... and would be very happy within the pre-order at $300 zone. Let's see what happens.

Finally was able to get to the page, and this happened to me too. Are we supposed to put something in the text box for the Serial number (I only want to activate the Free version) or what?

I dont like demos for a start, I cannot understand why a free product should have to be ACTIVATED at all.
I have tried to activate Unity3 with my Unity 2 serial number and it does not work why? Yes I was one of those unlucky
people that actually paid for Unity Indie ($248.75 USD) not long before it went free.

Actually, they offered a (large) discount on iOS and Pro licenses for those who paid previously for free.

I also paid - and aside from large discounts - they also offered me my money back - which was pretty cool of them. They didn't have to.

And anyway - your getting U3 for free now... at least you will when the activation issue is fixed.

Side note - your U2 serial will not work.... as the serial needs to start with U3.

One of the reasons that we need you to activate free Unity is to get some reliable statistics on how many people are using it and how many people upgrade to pro afterwards. It's one of those little things that helps us make Unity better and c'mon, why don't give us a couple of more clicks during the installation if what you're getting in return is Unity for free that you can use for anything you like? :) Also the PACE copy protection we use does not install any resident drivers, hidden processes nor anything like that.

Every time I try to register I get this message
"The serial number you entered is not valid. Please recheck the serial number and try again. To get a trial, contact support@unity3d.com."
As I do not have a number to enter further attempts at registering are bound to end up in an endless loop.

    Hiya,

Just start activation. You'll get taken to the activation server which opens in a web browser. In that browser just select the Free activation option. Behind the scenes you get issues a new free serial number and you should be good to go. Your old 2.x Indie serial number is really now just a tag that says you have paid us money before, so if you purchase one of our products in the future you _may_ get a discount, depending on what sales and marketing promotions we have on at the time.

    Thanks,
    Graham

Just to note, our grease monkeys have given the activation server some fine tuning now, so things should start to go a lot smoother. (Sound of fingers crossing...)

My favorite part must be that the gui shows up even in scene view, and so do skyboxes. It makes testing stuff so much easier.
