yes it does if we realistically expect mid to high 5 figure numbers of concurrent attempts to get it activated etc

also because the board and website have changed and the cache and database might not be up an ready to it yet to its fullest

bootcamp comes free (with the install)

the army guy project isn't a demo project I think. at least none where you will get sources and assets (so similar to avert fate in the past - demo that shows unity, not to toy with for ya)

:p I have 1.5 tb of space, so one gig is nothing for me. :p

And I believe monodevelop are the dll's and such for Mono, which is a .Net alternative that is usable on multiple os's

hmm. Now I don't even get that webpage to appear at all (not even the loading of it).
I get that annoying popup in the activation setup (almost instantly, after selecting internet activation). Operation timed out.

    Aka. It's get worse...

UT employees, where is your feedback on the issue?

A lot of the time, it doesn't pop up the webpage before timing out, then sometimes it opens the webpage, you enter the info, hit submit, but it takes too long and times out.

EDIT: On another note, what serial number are we supposed to use when manually activating. It just keeps taking me back to the same page without anything different.

If the automatic internet activation fails for some you can also use the manual activation page to activate your copy:
    https://store.unity3d.com/manual/

When you select Enter Serial number, pick Manual Activation. Then Save the ILR file and upload it to the page. You will get back and ILF file which you can then load in the activation page.

Yep, i've tried that one too.. but to no working results.

The license part, server wise is a short session, can be done in like 5 seconds processing time.
(so, not too much cpu cycles per session and bandwidth, the server should be able to coop with it. I recall that when 2.6 was launched these problems did not occur)

O-o I was talking about the automated internet activation. The link that Samantha gave on the first page doesn't have a free check box. I know the store.unity3d/manual has one, but I would guess that since they have a different page, that link is only for unity 2 licenses.

I've done it with internet activation, and choosing 30 day trial. I had to do it like 4 times because it timed out a lot

No, currently, just as the internet activation, this does not work!
    (for free license anyway)

It gives an error back, that the server denied the activation request.

I don't go for the Pro evaluation, because i might get used to the PRO features too much, and after the 30 days i need to say goodbye to them again. Furthermore, it should work, nomatter what type of license is choosen.

yep, that's we all get now.

maybe UT should check the config of the database server (allowed connections etc) or the webserver setup.. something is possibly wrong.

Looks like I got lucky the first time.

I tried activating another copy on my laptop, and ran into the same problems people are having above. The Internet activation times out when using the free button. I downloaded the ILR file, and tried to upload it on the manual activation page, but the server came back and said it was invalid.

no, because if they did, everybody want to be activated like that (and they have to honor the requests).

I did the manual activation and I received a "UnityLicense.ilf" file but the "Finish" button is still not clickable. What am I supposed to do with the UnityLicense.ilf file?

Nevermind I figured it out! Unity 3 is loadin' up! Yay!

For anyone else that wants to know:
    "
    A) We have recently created a webpage to allow customers who have had difficulty activating online to create the activation file for themselves. The page is:

    https://store.unity3d.com/manual/

If you downloaded Unity (the free version)
Click the Free activation tickbox, Otherwise type in your serial number and upload your ILR file, then click Activate Unity. Within a second or two an ILF file should be downloaded to your computer.

When you restart Unity, please go to the Activation window (either it will start up on launch, or choose Help>Enter Serial Number (win) or Unity>Enter Serial Number (osx)). Select Manual Activation, click Next, then click "Read License" and choose the license file you downloaded above. Click Next, and Unity will read the file, and your activation should be complete!
    "

Well, you need not only select free activation, but also provide a license request file (just as for a PRO License).
If you don't it will prompt for it.
Secondly, you're lucky it worked out for you! For most of us it doesn't. Timed out/denied messages all over the place.

    Enjoy U3.0 :)

Thanks UT, for a great launch party! *couch*. :D

    Authentication Error

The product activation system has denied activating the product. Please contact Unity support for further assistance.

Saved the license file, clicked free activation, browsed for the file...and this error came up on the next page. Any ideas? Or is it just too much traffic?

Writing in blood might stain this new forum ;)

the server likely is just dieing under all your funny uses attempt to activate, activate again activate again etc etc ;-) wouldn't assume that it is made for tens to hundreds of thousands of request per hour ;)

so wait till 50% of earth go to sleep (its 11:30PM in europe, so some will soon drop out)

unity 3 did some weird stuff to my fish game :-/

heads up, save your projects before letting it upgrade

    is the upgrade reversible?
