Our latest tech release of the Unity Editor, 2023.1, is now available on the download page and in the Unity Hub.

Curious about what’s new in 2023.1? Check out our release highlights, as well as the release notes and the Unity Documentation, to learn what’s included in the release.

Unsure how to go about upgrading? Check out the upgrade guides to help you go from previous Unity releases to Unity 2023.1. For complex productions with a high number of dependencies, find out how our Success Plans can ensure the upgrade process goes smoothly.

Please remember that with the tech releases you’re trying out the newest features & tools to help us shape Unity’s development, so make sure to back up your projects before opening them in a new version of Unity. The tech releases are not recommended for projects in production or close to release, for these projects we recommend our latest LTS release. If you encounter any issues, please let us know by submitting a bug report so it can reach our developers.

If you have any questions or feedback related to 2023.1, please feel free to share them in this thread and we will do our best to address them.

A blog post will likely follow next week. We'll update the thread here once it's out.

While you can‘t wait you can try the 2023.2 alpha. By the patch version number (20 I think) it‘s getting close to being relabeled as beta. ;)

So, I downloaded the release and it looks like windows alt tabbing issue was not addressed at all. Also my text is all blurry... So that's nice

Wait a second, are we not doing release candidates anymore? Are we going straight from beta to release moving forward for new major tech releases?

    Hi,

i just want to ask about some issues we get with FBX while trying to import.

We're getting a lot of FBX files that can not import for some reasons. For example, a worker process has crashed during import or "[Worker4] Identifier uniqueness violation: 'Name:TrafficCar01_WindowFrontRight_LOD0, Type:Mesh'. Multiple Objects with the same name/type are generated by this Importer. There is no guarantee that subsequent imports of this asset will properly re-link to these targets.".

Could this be a bug or there are some changes made in the asset import pipeline, if so, where can we read about how to fix it ?

    Thanks !

Unity 2023.1 is all good and all, full of features for HDRP, but URP sadly gets no love from you guys, I've been suggesting features in the roadmap for ages and nothing gets done there, all the resources are poured into HDRP, they get volumetric lights, volumetric clouds, water simulation, hair simulation, realtime GI "although this one is questionable as it's not exactly realtime and require some trickery", no work on something similar to UE5's Nanite which improves performance A LOT, I've been told by Unity's internal devs "We're looking into it", we're all looking but someone needs to act, I asked for area light to be real-time and not baked only and I've been told "It requires deep engine reconstruction" sure it does... All the focus seem to be on HDRP, and the focus is like fun assets like clouds and water, we need Engine tools and on URP as well!

I fully agree, at least they're working on burst gpu occlusion culling, which seems like an exciting performance boost!
