I ran into this problem when I tried to open my 2019.3.0b2 project in 2019.3.0b3 via the Unity HUB. The editor never opened and in Task Manager there was an unnamed Unity item. After killing the Unity Editor process and reopening the project, it worked though.

In Task Manager, it's idling by one or more thread finishing Network I/O.

In case it can help someone : I had the same problem, I worked with Unity 2017. I tried to open the project with Unity 2019 and same problem. Before the crash I had a facebook sdk not found error that I haven't taked care of, so what I did was go to the folder /Library in my assets and delete the facebook folder. Problem gone !

Have the same issue here, Tested on Unity 2019.3.9f1, 2019.3.14f1 and 2019.3.15f1, all just do the same, no crash report at all after first time i open the project having library folder deleted (only way now to open the project, which takes 40min on SSD) it wont open anymore.

Edit: Checking the editor logs the only error i can see is from the Unity Package Manager

Edit 2: Manually removing manifest.json from Packages folder made it to do some more re-importing, waiting to see if that helped at all

Edit 3: Removing manifest.json did made the project open, at least that another time, would get HDRP back in and close and open project to see if that made it.

Edit 4: Opening after all these, still does not opens right away, now it says not responding on Task Manager and there is a UnityShaderCompiler running, seems like for now my work around would be deleting manifest.json and reimporting HDRP inside Unity with package manager, which is at least faster than a full reimport by having Library folder deleted

I've been getting the same issue in Unity 2018.4.23f1.

Will try creating abd1.txt, deleting Library folder and doing a full reimport. See you in a few hours.

Edit 1: Still crashing even after deleting Library and making abd1.txt!

Edit 2: After deleting Temp and trying again, still the same result. The last thing in the Editor.log is "Begin MonoManager ReloadAssembly".

Edit 3: After renaming Packages/manifest.json to "IGNORE manifest.json" (i.e. removing it), it starts to load! Diffing the editor logs, I see the following:

    - In my old manifest I had removed TextMeshPro. In the new log I see it "Resetting packages to defaults dependencies", with TextMeshPro added back to the list of packages that are registered.

    - Where the previous log ended (at "Begin MonoManager ReloadAssembly") I now see "Intializing Unity.PackageManager", and the log continues.

Edit 4: Now it hangs on the progress bar with "Hold on..." and a file named "UnityEngine.UI.dll". The end of the log says "Reloading assemblies after forced synchronous recompile." then "Begin MonoManager ReloadAssembly" again... groan.

I was having the same issue.

After deleting the following folders from the Project folder (whatever your game is called folder).

    1. Obj
    2. Library
    3. Temp
I restarted Unity and attempted to re-open the project and it worked... once it downloaded all the things it required. BUT at least that did it for now. It seems to happen when Unity crashes unexpectedly and may have corrupted something in the project.
