    Hello,

I run Unity 2019.3.6f1 on my MacBook Pro 15" mid 2014 with:

    2,5 GHz Intel Core i7 quad-core
    16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB

I am studying the NavMesh Agent project (see the picture below) and I often get a kernel panic that reboot my Mac with this error message: "mac restarting because of a problem".

I always got the kernel panic when I was running Unity with that project and not in other situations.

Is it a bug or it may be a problem with my Mac?

    Thanks!

Hmm, have you tried measuring CPU/GPU usage while running this before the kernal panic? If so, is it under constant 100% load? It's possible that the project in particular might have too much included which is stressing out the laptop

    I’m experiencing the same problem.

i was working on my game with Unity 2019.1 and everything was fine.
Then i upgraded to Unity 2019.3.6f1.

So when i was opening my game project with the new Unity, the Package Manager Error window came up telling me that it couldn’t modify/add com.Unity.ads.

when i click continue on the Package Manager Error window, Unity opens up. Then all of a sudden my iMac shuts down!!!!!!

the iMac repowers up with a warning saying something wrong happened that causes my iMac’ to suddenly power off.

i have a 2016 mode iMac with macOS Mojave

Maybe i found a solution that works for me: Enable Metal support in Edit > Project Settings and search for Metal Editor Support checkbox and check it.

With this I didn't get any crash so far, I hope it will not happen again. I will let you know.

That makes sense. CPU was likely trying to do too much and wasn't using the GPU properly.

    Great news!

i did as you said and enabled Metal support under: Edit -> Project Settings -> Metal Editor Support.

Now my Unity is no longer crashing.

Also, the Package Manager Error window turned out to not be related to the iMac crashing.

    thanks.

Yes, I can confirm this. However, my project demands OpenGL Core on Mac platform at this time, but once I switch to it, Unity Editor keeps crashing my OS. Is there ever a plan to solve this in future releases?

I can confirm that happened to me also, so still present in Unity 2019.4.5 LTS. This thread saved me, I just reverted to Metal.

    DanielX95 Thanks so much :D

    I've just done it differently.

Edit > Project Settings > Player Tab > Other Settings.

And then in the "Graphics API for Mac", I added (with the +) Metal and put it in first position above "OpenGL Core".
