There'll be a mail all right. Another good thing to do is to subscribe to the front page news RSS.

I second this, I think all those of us that started up the UniTree project are really excited to learn how it was incorporated into 2.0 so we can start preparing vegetation now for when 2.0 comes out. -Jeff

Will I be able to make a cube go up and down as if by magic in Unity 2.0? I've been dreaming of that for a long time....

More simple scripts included. Oh yes, that'd be nice for users. Timer scripts, scoring scripts, lots and lots of new simple script examples make artist-coders happy.

When 2.0 is released will it have new tutorials as well?

Are those tutorials available now, so we can get a jump start?

Will there be any immediately available tutorials on networking?

On a scale of 1-10(10 being hardest); how hard will it be to create something like Sony's "Home" with Unity 2.0? link to video: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/78617.html

Or for me, on a scale of 1-10 (10 being hardest); how hard will it be to create something like a simple two or four-player online card or racing game with Unity 2.0?

Guys, 1-10 rankings are way too hard to provide as it's highly dependant on your specific skill set, familiarity with networked content development, etc. I didn't watch the whole Home video but that does seem like something that's possible as are any turn-based or live-action multiplayer games.

There's a guy walking in a lightmapped big home. The most difficult part is the gui, if you are a good artist it's not that hard.

Let me re-ask the question then :)

If someone is already capable to produce the graphics at a professional level, how hard will the networking peice be in Unity?

Will it be point and click to add network attributes?

not worried about the art or gui at all. Can you give a scenario? Will there be tutorials specific to creating a 3d chat room of sorts? Or realtime racing?

My question really has nothing to do with graphics all about how hard it will be to program the networking features for an artist.

Home is basically a completely generic MMO (not MMORPG, just MMO....dosomething), so he's basically wondering how easy the networking code for something like that will be. I'm sure there will be scripts on the wiki in short order (if not included with 2.0) that will make such a generic game world easy (as easy as the architectural walkthroughs are in Unity 1.x)

Astrologically, Summer ends near the end of September for the Northern Hemisphere.

Meteorologically, it ends at the beginning of September... so...

let's just hope they aren't talking Southern Hemisphere. ;-)

Yes, I believe it is time to discuss the feature set of said "sandwiches".... Perhaps some "tomato" or "lettuce"? There must be some sort of secret meat that we can get a little peek at... "turkey", "roast beef" perhaps... and spicy mustard, mmmm spicy mustard...

    :-D

The real deadline is to ship it before the conference Oct 10. Pushing back to that date wouldn't surprise me, with a release this big, but I expect we'll see it last week of Sept.

    I can has shadows now?

Despite wanting to see v2 released, I'm glad OTEE isn't rushing it...

I'd rather have good and elegant than half-implemented!

I thought this was already possible (although I haven't tried it yet). I thought if your display was set up for "double" wide screen display that screen resolution would appear in the options for the loader. Or did I miss something?

The public gets what the public wants. More shadow debugging screenshots! :)

This is what happens when a too wide Poisson disc filter is used on the shadows.

Cool! You guys can put that on the website:

    * Fish filtered Shadows! No bait needed!

Perhaps this could replace the vague / misleading "Secure Deployment" item? :)

We are all still alive! And we're working very hard on finishing up 2.0. Tom and I are in Austin, TX right now for the Austin Game Developer's Conference. We're showing off some slick demos of Unity 2.0. So progress is being made, but the wait goes on... [/cheap apple press release ripoff]
