Unity 1.6.1 has just been released as a free update to the 3D web-and-standalone game development tool. This update allows developers to greatly improve the gaming experience in the browser.

Unity games can now stream compressed audio from the web, and lock the mouse, allowing for a better interactive web game experience. Unity supports full integration and interaction with Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox, Mozilla, Netscape and Camino on Windows and Mac OS X (on both Intel and PPC-based Macs).

Remember: Unity provides the only cross-platform browser plugin which is able to do modern 3D graphics. Now this content can load faster and be more engaging !

    Download it here: http://unity3d.com/unity/unity.dmg

Congrats on the release guys! One question:

Does this mean that the Firefox bug has been identified (and we'll see a fix in a future FF version)?

Yes, after lots of stepping through assembly I found the cause (link). In some future version Mozilla is planning to use a different bug reporting component though. In the meantime we're still looking for alternative workarounds.

Which Intel based macs are effected? Might be a good idea to post a list so we don't update Unity until the OS has been fixed...

If it happens, then it happens on every version of Unity, so there is no harm in upgrading. It's really rare like 0.1% of all intel macs having this defect.

Based only on the frequency of seeds and a gut feeling, I would guess *throws dart at calendar* a week or two.

We're generally a couple of days late with that. You'll see it in our inbox soon, but in your case I guess you won't be waiting for the mail :)

    Enjoy Unity 1.6.1 y'all.
