    Hi guys,

Using Unity 2017.1.1, we're getting 'Unable to resolve host "cdp.cloud.unity3d.com"' on our Android device.

Anyone know what's this all about?

I believe you can safely ignore those (if you are relying on some Unity services, then I'm not sure).
If that annoys you, try disabling hardware stats in player settings.

We can ignore it, but this isn't free. It still pops up red errors every day, which are distracting. In our development we keep the log clean; if there is anything in the log (especially a red error) it means something is wrong. Having the platform force this message into the log all the time is a source of costly cognitive noise.

It also indicates Unity is attempting some kind of phone-home operation which isn't clearly explained and where there's no clear way to turn it off. This is clearly user-hostile.

In addition to the error, Unity is also writing a file called UnityConnectSettings.asset with a bunch of addresses and settings which I didn't write and don't want. I never want to use Unity Connect. I did not sign up for Unity Connect. So why is Unity attempting to use my machine to communicate with Unity Connect? The editor writing this file over and over just means I have to constantly reset it in our source manager so these changes don't go into the repo any time I edit unrelated files.

Please provide a way to disable all of this user-hostile behavior, at least in paid versions of Unity.

    I agree with Tynan:
just got those annoying red error messages all over again after updating my project to Unity 2019.2 from 2018.4
I'm a Pro user, i have HW stats and Editor analytics off, have reduced my included packages in the package manager to the few i really need, and still i get those messages if i don't allow unity to punch through my firewall
The messages do NOT happen in Unity 2018.4, so it seems unity phone-home efforts have been intensified with U 2019
I really don't like that ... please stop that !

Can you elaborate, pops up red errors where? UnityConnectSettings.asset is readable, it is the file where all cloud service states are stored. If you enable crash reporting, cloud build, Analytics or IAP, you'll see this in the file.

Seeing this error now in the Editor Console Log at startup after updating to 2019.2.12. Our studio has no connection to the internet so it fails, but this is an error in the log that now makes people say "Why is something not working". Furthermore we don't want artists getting "used to" ignoring errors as that is bad!

FYI I did disable Hardware Statistics in BOTH Editor settings and Player settings (though we generally don't build) but the error still occurs at editor start in the console log.

I started getting this error after upgrading to 2019.2.11, I hoped that upgrading to 2019.2.12 would solve this problem, but no.

I tried in two different machines.

I also switched from Pro to personal license .

The two errors I get when I am not connected to the internet are:

Curl error 6: Could not resolve host: config.uca.cloud.unity3d.com
Curl error 6: Could not resolve host: cdp.cloud.unity3d.com

And this is a pain, I dont have internet in my place, I have to carry my workstation to a different storey each time I want to update anything. But now that does not matter anymore because Unity will annoy me with error messages for not being connected to the internet.

And yes, I know I should had to back up my project before updating, but I didn't, and now I am stuck with this red pop ups.

So…. what is the solution? We wait for 2019.2.13 in hopes this gets fixed?

Yes, it runs, but that is beside the point.

As previously mentioned by other users on this thread, this red pop ups are an unwanted behaviour.
As mentioned by Tynan, there is an unexplained phone-home behavior that is not explained and cant be changed or opted out.
Or as mentioned by jwvanderbeck, getting used to ignore errors is bad practice.
Or as mentioned by many others, is just annoying.

Error pop ups are there to communicate to us that there is a problem, we use the console to debug our projects, we can not simply start “ignoring” this pop ups because it is still working.

And yes, “you can safely ignore the message” is a short term kind of solution, but not a real solution.

Another important thing to keep in mind is we are living now in a society that is becoming more and more averse to data collection in any form, let alone unknown, unannounced, data collection.

In searching out this problem for myself I ran across tons of threads in game forums where the game was suddenly trying to connect to Unity servers and players were turning hostile against the developers of their game because of a change that the developers didn't even know about.

Data collection is a serious hot topic these days and ANY changes need to be WELL communicated.

I wasn't dismissing your concerns, but it crashes a game at runtime it raises the priority. We hit that endpoint to see what services you might have enabled, it's not collecting data.

The error itself isn't the concern here. What troubles me (and perhaps others) is that this apparently is a known error at Unity Technologies (for more than a year, looking at Aurimas-Cernius' post), and the best advice we get is "ignore it". No explanation why, no solution, not even the slightest hint of customer concern.

I believe the code comes from certain packages installed in the project (Gaia for me), but why and how to disable it is unclear to me.

Today I didn’t have the Internet and I constantly received this error message.

This did not affect the game / editor, but a little annoying during development.

Unity Team, please fix it. The analytics service should not fall when there is no Internet. The correct way is to save analytics data locally and send it when the Internet is available, but this quick fix would be fine too:

    Code (CSharp):
    1. if(Application.internetReachability != NetworkReachability.NotReachable)
    2. {
    3.     DoUnityAnalitycsInternetWork();
    4. }

Yes, Unity Analytics already caches events when there is no internet, and sends them the next time there is, when the game is launched.

Then the message should be displayed as a warning, not an error. This is more logical.

Hi. I get the same message every 10th second 3 to 8 times in a row. Even when doing nothing inside unity at all. I litterally was searching and reading up about this bug on google chrome and now that I returned to unity I can see in the log that during my 5 minutes on google I got 4 errors in my log. 3 of them roughly 10 seconds apart and then a 4th one a minute later.

Since I use logs to communicate errors I would like to know what is going on since our designers will ask questions about this, and I don't want them to ignore actual errors. What is the solution to this? Using 2019.2.11f1. Any plans? Skärmklipp.PNG

This message can not be ignored, when I disconnected with my network, and I press Play button, the editor will just crash and shutdown automatically, I am a personal user.

This is not exclusive to Android - happens in Desktop Development builds too

Turning this "on" seems to have stopped the phoning home in 2018.4.13

I'm concerned that "Engineering" will just suppress the error and retain the phoning home as default enabled, instead of default disabled and a clear opt-in confirmation prompt.

When I run the built app, it should have asked me if sending data to a 3rd party was acceptable, Yes / No.

    Ok I got that error
    Here is what I did.
    1. Cleaned my GI cache.
    2. Increase my GI cache to 24gb.
    3. Restarted project, and everything was fine.
Simply put Unity wants you to be connected to the internet when you use their software just like everybody else. I'm not saying that the error may not return but I hope what I did help somebody out.

As a unity Pro developer(different account from forum account) who generally works on projects that require isolation, privacy, and sometimes security, this type of data mining 'mistake' is unacceptable to my employers and their clients when it comes up in their audit logs.

The first thing i do on any project is ensure the Disable HW Statistics option is set, yet here on unity 2019 the "Curl error 7: Failed to connect to config.uca.cloud.unity3d.com port 443 " message is being raised.

MrG's concern is very valid, what measures is Unity Going to put into place to ensure privacy is respected?

As an Enterprise Developer, my clients must be assured that none of their data can leak out to unauthorized (Unity) services. And my company needs to know that about our own data. This is part of security audits and vetting. Make this crystal transparent clear in docs and in the product (perhaps About)

I can't disable editor analytics on free version. The checkbox is grey out.

I've upgraded today to version 2019.2.14f1 from 2019.2.3f1 and I'm getting these messages that disrupts the workflow as I'm constantly looking at the console because there is the red text there.

To anyone who has an issue with privacy Unity makes it clear it collects a bucket load of information from your use of the editor and the players who play your games. This is all mentioned in the terms and condition and privacy policy. Personally I cannot believe they do this but nothing seems to have been done about it.

Every Unity game made has to legally include a data collection notice but 99% of the games I am aware of do not do this.

So I expect it won't be long before Unity is hit with the fine hammer by the EU and other countries once they become aware of these things and it's up to Unity to stop this nonsense.

After all remember what happened to Youtube-it was advertising to minors. Most people who play Unity games are minors so their being data mined and advertised too without their consent, ohh I can hear the whip being made for Unity haha.

All the Unity games made now come with many unwanted packages that users have to remove manually. I wonder who decided this and why management thought this was a good idea....

A second thing I've notice when upgrading was that the unity hub stopped working correctly, first the unity hub insisted I have no license for the editor, then after following the steps to add the license back I've tried to add the 2019.2.14f1 version near the 2019.2.3f1 which it didn't want to. It silently failed to download the files. No message of error or similar. Because I had nothing better to do I've tried to download the 2019.2.14f1 manually and there I screw up because without asking the installation process removed the previous version and installed the new one of top. Now Unity Hub thinks the 2019.2.14f1 is the 2019.2.3f1 ANYWAY :D is a mess, I think I will need to remove everything unity related and add again the various versions that I need.

So check if your unity hub still have a license or not.

sorry if is not clear FIRST unity hub autoupdated and created the license problem. Then it was my choice to add the new version just to have it along side the other version.

One known bug is that if UnityWebRequest prints error to console and you have selected to stop on error, it will crash the editor.

Thanks for the heads-up, it does seem to work when 'Error Pause' gets disabled :D

IMO, the setting for the Error Pause seems better for it to be disabled by default (or I prolly enabled it somehow without being aware of it)

@Aurimas-Cernius Is there a bug report for this where we can track the status? Is there a known-working version of Unity without this bug?

Core functionality (pause on error) inducing a crash is very concerning, especially if there's no workaround. This seems like a top-priority issue.

Enabling the "Disable HW Statistics" does not fix the issue for me in 2019.2.14f1

This does not fix the issue for me in 2019.2.14f1

I’m getting this error as well in Unity 2019.2.13f1

It only happens when not connected to the internet

even worse, if error pause is on, it CRASHES the editor

this should be ultra high priority for Unity engineering! Literally crashes the entire editor on hit play if not connected to the internet

I got this error in 2019.2.17 when I cut off the internet connection.
It could cause an severe FPS drop when this error message came up.
So I just can't ignore it.
I use Mirror as the networking solution. But I also need it to run in an offline/LAN environment.

I'm running 2019.2.15f1 and was trying to help someone out with some other error messages when it popped up on mine. Since my internet is a bit wonky when it's below 0F here, I guess that must be it.I got Curl error 6 btw.
