Unable to create Animation clip

As soon as I press the recording button on the Animation tab, the character goes into this weird compressed pose, and I am unable to move any of the bones.



If I attach another, pre-made, animation to the Animation Controller, it animates fine. As soon as I create a new animation clip though, the character makes the pose above and I'm unable to rotate any of the bones and record.
