    Hi y'all,

Am currently following the space shooter tutorial videos and am working through the add a background chapter.

    Problem is :-

    As instructed I follow hierarchy>create>3D object>quad

After creating my quad, I try to add a texture (again as shown) but unity will not allow me to do this like it does in the video.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers.

I'm new myself but I'll try to help! :D

my guess is that you tried to drag the texture on the object (as in the video, I think..) but you can only do that in the scene view not the game view., So.., check what view you're trying to drag into..,

    Hope this helps! :)

Strange, does it say anything when you try? like an error message?

I've got no ideas except the game view / scene view thingy that wasn't the case =/

Unfortunately, it doesn't pick up the 'no entry' icon when I try to drag but you can see my setup.

ok, sorry for my late reply also (weekends yo). If that's the camera angle you're using then it doesn't work because the quad doesn't "show".., either rotate the quad or position the camera on the other side (so that the quad shows).

If that's not the case here then I'm out of ideas :)

I am had the same problem, attempting the Space Shooter tutorial in Unity 5 on Windows 8.1.

In Step 5, "Adding a background", the tutorial had me add a texture to the "Background" quad by dragging the texture onto the quad. That worked just fine (although that seems to be the step Kinkladze11 is stuck on). Then in Step 7, "Creating shots" when it wanted me to add a the "fx_bolt_orange" material to the "Bolt, VFX" quad, I was unable to drag either a material or a texture to the quad. The mouse showed the "no entry" icon that Kinkladze11 described.

I closed Unity completely and then opened the project again. After restarting Unity, I was able to drag the texture onto the quad. Still not sure what the problem was. Just for kicks, I created a few more quads and was able to drag textures and materials to all of them.

Thank you. This was the same problem I had. I just closed Unity, reopened it, and was able to drag the texture on. Must be a bug in Unity, I guess.

Similar problem. I attached a texture to the quad and could see the geometry of the quad in the editor but it wasn't displaying the texture in the editor or in game/scene views.

Solution in my case was turning the quad around (rotating 180 on y-axis).
