Most phone contracts last two years. After that time period people often get a new phone along with a new contract. Unreal 4 may not support mobile very well now, but that could change in three to four years as could the hardware.

Yup because that's why GTA Vice city mobile is doing so bad (Psss. I'm lieing it's doing awesome)... Of course there is a market for it, it's just not possible but the ocean flood of 2D games makes something of higher quality step out a mile.

Biggest gripe about the game is how poorly it runs on some mobiles.

Unity is not the best tool for 2D development. If you want to create 2D games faster and better there's plenty of specialized 2D game engines.

You mean 2D for desktop and Android ? UT Free have 2D physics, a time line animation editor, collisions and it seems to run well, not so bad and for people using UT Free , who could find so complete for free ?
If you are able to put some money, perhaps Construct 2 could be some alternative ? i don't know as i don't use 2D engine.
But for a free solution and tools with Mobile support, UT Free is the best actually.

"Best" seems a bit misleading. Well, if you are broke and want to create 2D games for free then yeah, Unity is the only choice under such conditions but if you got 150$ to spend, Construct 2 it's gazillions miles a better option. It gives you a complete multiplatform specialized 2D engine with plenty of 2D tools to speed up workflow.

You can target even older devices without unity, with 2d. Not that you'd want to but back in the day I made a sprite based game that ran on a 3g phone that won't install unity.

In the US. In Europe, IIRC, it's now illegal to hide the cost of the phone in the monthly payments.

T-Mobile isn't doing it anymore in the US, either. They'll allow you to pay for the phone over 24 months, but you can change plans at any time. If you cancel your plan, there's no fee for that, but you have to pay off the remainder of the phone.

However, I still expect people to change phones every 2 years or less because the new phones always have fancy new features, better processors, etc etc.

What is great is it's done using tools and lightening systems that UE4 have out of the box.
With UT5 i think people will have to pay more than the license or upgrade ( shader editor, good cinematic tool, better particles ...)

The impressive part of that is the art. One dude modeled all the environment. He has a bright future.

It's called harmony, good use of post / particles / lighting / camera work and art. Unified into one good looking demonstration.. You know more than anyone what good lighting and rendering adds to the equation..

Sure it's not quite on "that engines" level, but looks sweet as to me.

No doubt. I am just noting that the really truly impressive part may be getting missed. If it were a team of 20 people modeling that in 7 days or something, that would be one thing. But 1 guy? Doing the entire environment? It's a lot of environment. It looks awesome (on many, many levels) in UE, and clearly wouldn't look as great in UT4. But if you remove the awesome environment (in any engine), 7 days for the development of that isn't all that impressive.

Pftt... I roll with no lights, and Unlit shaders. Lights are a crutch for people who can't draw. ;)

I never really considered it hiding so much as an incentive to get a certain plan, but I definitely like the sound of being able to change plan and still be able to pay off the phone slowly.

I'm used to seeing my mother and sister misplace their phones. So I was thinking more like phone loss, damage, etc.

It's considered hiding it because the price of the plan doesn't change after you pay off the phone. They're charging the same amount whether or not they give you the most expensive phone or no phone at all.

Don't even get me started about how many of my family members have thrown their phone in the toilet or the trash by accident. *sigh*
