Since moving a project across to U5 I am getting erratic physics behaviour between two objects connected with a hinge. As soon as either collides with another object they go haywire and often fly out of the scene crashing unity.

Has anyone else experienced such weirdness with hinge joints in U5? Everything was working well in U4.

There was another thread with talk of this (including attention by Unity devs) and the upshot of it was that I thought it was being fixed in a beta version of U5. So ... not sure what is going on, sorry, but maybe search for that thread ...?

One thing to note for all people saying joints and physics are broken in Unity 5. You are right and here is the explanation why : They changed the way constraints on the rigidbody work, and they are now in local space instead of worldspace.

They did that to fix some old sleeping rigidbody issues but by doing so, it introduced many bugs related to joints and changed completely some of the the behavior of joints between Unity 4 and Unity 5.

There are two options then :

    1) Like the user above, just report the bug and they will fix it eventually.

    2) Don't use their constraints and code your own constraints. The way constraints worked in Unity 4, it was just forcing the angle to 0 which you can achieve yourself. By doing that it should remove most joint issues. If not, then go for option 1).

Hi, we have been receiving bug reports on the HingeJoints and we are working on fixes. I cannot tell you if it will be in patch1 or patch2.
    Thanks,
    Morten

Mental hinge joint flying everywhere ending in a nan nan nan error in unity 5. why release it when it is totaly useless, so many bugs reported how come these were missed during beta testing? so many basic things wrong how were these allowed to be released in this state, cant upgrade any pojects untill hinge is fixed total waste of a big unity 5 release when it is unfit for purpose, feel sorry foe those who paid 1500 for it, looks like another year is needed to iron this into a fit state. How do you expect pople to work on projects then keep waiting months for patches so we can continue, thanks for unity 5 but no thanks , not in this state!!!

    Also here with similar issue.
Nothing crazy like flying off into the distance or anything, but I use them for doors with a motor and limits(which are 'broken').
Not much more I can really add, other than adding my name to the list of people effected in hopes we get a fix soonish. I'm sure they are working hard on it, but ya know... hurry up!
I could prob just use animations, but i'd really rather not.
Good luck Unity Team! Please fix!

I'm in v5.1.1p3 and it is still happening to me in every scene that has HingeJoints in it (our project is a Unity 4 one that we have recently upgraded to 5).

Is this bug already fixed, or is there some workaround for now?
