Two different Unity projects open, importing assets in one freezes the other

I realized it was a mistake to import assets from the asset store into a separate project to test them out while I worked on modifying something in a different unity project. Is this something unity is working on addressing? This is in Unity 2019.4.16 for both projects. I don't really understand why different projects would effect each other when they are saved on different areas on my drive and don't use the same assets. I would tag this as store or asset store but I guess that's not a tag.

It's annoying having to wait to finish importing assets in that one project before I could get to coding in my other project. While it's a minor wait, if I was importing anything bigger this would be very concerning.
