Tutorials don't match

The tutorials don't match the screens. Example would be in the palette it asks to drag into it a color to paint on grid, but nothing happens, then it asks for background in tool palette and that hierarchy should display background, but there is no background to display. I guess either I don't understand instructions in tutorials or this software is missing something, because so far tutorials don't work to match platform.

 

Frankly, you've given no information for anyone to help you. Which tutorial? What part of that tutorial? Screenshots would be useful.

For starters, make sure you are using the proper Unity version that the tutorial was written for. If this is not an official Unity tutorial, try contacting the author for help.

 

I still can't get the background to show in grid or tile window. You know to fill in individual cells in the grid. The tutorials ask to use the tool palette to fill in individual cells, like terrain and texture, but the background code object whatever you call it has to appear in the drop down menu to do this. So I am hammering at it until I figure it out.
