I am trying to find ways to learn how to make a game wherein the player's actions, decisions and behavior affects the story and the way the game plays out. Something like House On The Hill.

The problem is that there are several unknown unknowns.

First, is it called emergent gameplay or something else?

Second, are there any tutorials I can find?

Third, what are the basic concepts?

Mark Brown’s “Game Maker’s Toolkit” and Adam Millard’s “The Architect of Games” are the two best shows on game design.

They both have several episodes that touch on this.

That said, being a new user I’m guessing you are still new to game development.

You are talking about something that is really for a studio project.

I highly recommend pulling it way back and focus on some small projects first.

Keep your scope tiny and focused.

You’ve got a lot of baby steps to take before jumping into all that.

    Thanks, I'll check those out.

I want to learn it so that one day I can understand how to use it. I don't have any delusions about whether or not I can implement it. I want to know how it works and attempt to practice the basics of the concept.
