    Hello,

I would just like to say I am completely new to Unity and have only done the tutorials, Youtube videos, and just browsing forums to teach myself. But I'm trying to combine a Screw and Washer together for a Demo and have no idea if I need to animate it to do this or if I'm able to make it interact with each other? I have the exact same models from the Asset Store in case you would like to see the two models I'm trying to combine: https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/3d/props/industrial/bolt-and-nut-2763 . Sorry for not using the proper technical terms for Unity, like I said I'm very new to this and don't know what the technical term would be for me wanting to combine these two items together. If anyone could help or give me some guidance that would be very appreciated truly.

Not sure what you mean by combining them. If they are separate gameobjects, you can just position them where they line up properly with each other, and then slide one into the other using regular transform or rigidbody movement. If you're using colliders, you'd need to take care that the colliders don't prevent the motion you're going for (such as if the washer had a collider that covered the hole in the center, which could act as a solid surface when you try to insert the screw in the hole).

    Hi Joe,

thanks for the response I appreciate any help or guidance I can get about Unity. What I mean by combining them is by attaching the washer to the screw as in twisting the washer onto the screw. They are separate game objects, so my next question is what is Rigidbody and colliders? Sorry for the late response I didn't think this post would have any replies this fast, thanks again for the help/information it's greatly appreciated.

Rigidbody and collider components are fundamental to building almost anything in Unity as they are the primary means of leveraging Unity's physics system. Rigidbodies are generally for applying physics to GameObjects, and colliders are for detecting and responding to contacts by other GameObjects with attached colliders.

I'd suggest going through some tutorials on them, even if you weren't going to use them in this project, since the vast majority of projects will need to use them at some point. You can find tutorials in the Learn section, and I'm sure there are plenty 3rd party tutorials on YouTube.
