Trivialstuff to sort out please...

    Can you actually sort out of the install.bat stuff so that if you just specify download/tmp folder, you don't get the stupid installer overwriting everything that doesn't have a version number... like install.bat and UnitySetup64.exe even though all the additional installers are like UnitySetup-Android-Support-for-Editor-2018.2.b3.exe .... install-2018.2.b3.bat would have been useful.

    As today I figured I'd grab the latest beta and the latest final of 2018.1 at another place while I wait for line internet to be installed at my place, only to find the install.bat and UnitySetup64.exe had been overwritten with the last downloaded version :mad:

    Would just be nice if there was another way to directly download the installers for a version to be installed later like on another pc.

    Also like how the Uninstallers for Unity always leave behind start menu folders with release notes shortcuts.. that go no where...

    If you have specific feedback for 2018.2 functionality please post. This sounds like a general unity complaint. This section of the site is very specific about what kind of posting is allowed and feature requests are not allowed unless part of a discussion about the relevant beta's new features.

    Not saying your complaint is not valid - merely, live betas aren't going to be good citizens in general, and don't have the QA final releases do. They can also kick your hard drive to death and spray graffiti on your desktop. But that hasn't happened yet.

    Out of curiosity, have you tried the Unity Hub beta? Because that is being built for the sole purpose of managing your unity installs and projects

    @hippocoder.. just move it to the relevant place ?... I just put it here as it wasn't really editor stuff but would be nice if it was actually sorted out during a current beta....I mean I could have dumped it in the general discussion? :D

    @Soaryn ...The downloader installer was used because I know I can specify where it downloads the actual installer files.. so I could easily put them on mobile/usb and reinstall at home later with the somewhat convenient install.bat file... I installed it just now to see and noticed in the beta section it only offers the latest beta release no previous releases for the latest cycle.. kinda dumb considering most unity's beta releases go wrong and you end up needing to either still have the older beta for that version already installed or need to redownload an older one to go back that was last working.

    That and the dumb thing doesn't even startup without throwing a bunch of errors..

    Connected to the internet.. but on a S*** connection with Unity's fragile crap networking stack...entire thing breaks down...The idea of working offline even if connected to the internet where all Unity's development tools could possibly need in file access dependency already on the ssd/hdd.. nah just not enough.. it needs 24/7 internet access on a good connection. I mean I can only guess as to the problems but I did see node.js being used so I've assumed it's going to be complete junk S*** for a future direction tbh.

    WEll ever since installing this unity hub garbage made with js electron S***.. I now can't even use the old unity launcher... without getting this nonsense



    ... and this is very much tied to 2018.2 because it has the same problem.. obviously since the last working version of unity 2018.1 b12.... some monkeys have seen to it that unity should no longer work because they needed to put whatever rubbish networking and licensing changes into the software. Wish I never even installed the hub garbage, but is just more problems with the package manager as reported in my other threads..

    it's like Unity just doesn't want to work anymore no matter what I try.. and above is recorded with internet working fine, and no firewall blocks.

    think its time I took a better look at the alternative game engines, is it possible to get asset store refunds purchased just a few days ago? its pretty clear I can't fuuucking use anything I bought, what with this crap networking/licensing/js and buggy package manager being shoved into the engine/launcher now even in the finalized 2018.1.0f2 isn't even stable and bug free.

    Even so, I'm more concerned about all the other bugs and technical problems that are going on right now since all this beta packman crap and networking bugs to do with the launcher(s) and unity's editor completely failing to work properly for me because of network issues and the fact so much of your editor is being tied to cloud crap and yet not tested enough to work properly in scenerio's that aren't just ohh you need high speed internet and work offline is broken aswel... good luck find another find engine. Like how am I meant to do anything with all these problems? Even the final release of 2018.1 is broken for me because of it.

    That's 100% correct, betas (including the hub) are relatively untested and can ruin a lot. Unity probably needs clearer beta warnings:
    • Back up project
    • Back up OS
    • Avoid alphas
    • It can blow up
    • It will blow up
    • I will hate Unity
    What I am saying is that I think the time has come for you to have less risk. It's not really that long to wait for betas to release as final versions. As for Hub, try removing all trace of Unity, remove the license files and then directly install the version that your project was last saved and working with. This happened to my brother as well, and he also was seduced by the generous giving nature of Hub. But Hub was bad and had secret ideas.

    Another (probably not applicable) issue we have had is not running Unity or Hub as admin, because it screwed with the networking permissions and caused Package Manager and Hub to fail for us. So check what you are logged in at, and if you are running those with permissions.

    @hippocoder.. you realize I can't even use 2018.1 ...like the final release.. what are you saying ... I should download and try 2017.4 and prey they haven't screwed that up with whatever junk code (js) has caused the newer releases to become unusable and buggy?

    Maybe 2017.4 might work it doesn't have beta packman stuff init.. but the launcher/editor not working stably with a poor internet connection is probably still a problem.. .ie see the thread of the 1fps editor all because of the unity's obsession with background connections and networking not done or tested thouroughly by the looks of it, and no care for workoffline or work with not a good connection.

    I am saying it's time for a clean slate by removing all trace of Unity and Hub, as well as licenses then restarting OS and installing the version of Unity that does work, and make sure you are running as Admin.

    Cos it looks like you can use nothing right now, so I can't think of anything else.

    I do run as admin.. uninstall all of unity's stuff I can surely do.. though going by past uninstallations of unity, they don't seem to like removing all of their crap when a user wants to uninstall.. just another issue really. Not that it will change anything.. the problem is clearly on Unity's side to fix with the bugs and better development with more forethought for end users not on highspeed internet connections right. And offline modes that actually work and not hindered by stupid licensing and package manager failures.

    And if it wasn't for my home connection having to use S***ty o2 mobile.. and another brittish isp (vodafone) for being so garbage they can't even stick to own fiber installation dates I wouldn't have this trouble right now.. well at least not as much with a culmination of issues all happening at the same damn time.
