    Hey all,

Unity Analytics is reporting far too many DAUs and New Users for our game, which is currently only being tested by ~10 people within our office. However, UA is reporting hundreds of DAUs and far too many daily New Users.

How does UA identify unique users? I assume SystemInfo.UniqueDeviceIdentifier, which may have issues. Does running in the editor confuse it in some way?

Obviously, these are very important stats and it's difficult to trust them. Is there a fix?

    Hey @hyperhippo!

Could you check to see if you are deleting the cache folder in (Application.persistentDatapath)/Unity folder?

The cache folder is where the userId is stored, deleting this will cause the SDK to think it's a new app install, and therefore, generate a new userId and in turn treat it as a new user (which could explain the 0% retention you are seeing, since each user is treated as a new user).

If you are not deleting the cache folder, please let us know and we will look into this further. I promise we'll get to the bottom of this - thanks for your cooperation!

    Hi Angelo,

I am not deleting that folder, at least not intentionally.

The folder exists, but it is empty, and remains so even when UA initialization and events return Ok.

If I do delete the folder, I notice that running in the editor creates a (empty) folder, which remains empty after posting some events and stopping the app. However, neither webplayer nor webgl builds even create it. Have not tested mobile.

EDIT: In case it's relevant, I am using 5.0.1f1, and specifying the ProjectID in the call to StartSDK().

    EDIT 2: Application.persistentDataPath == "" on webplayer.

update for everyone following this thread:

    Talked to @hyperhippo offline,
There's an issue with the plugin when running on the Editor with the WebPlayer platform.
The WebPlayer Build will still work but Editor - WebPlayer will produce new users everytime you click play,
the temporary work around is to not enable Unity Analytics in the Editor - WebPlayer, but your WebPlayer build will still work.
This error is related to the filesystem.
We're working on submitting a fix for this.

I'll update this thread once there's a fix.

We're also seeing a discrepancy in number of users, basically number of users and new users don't match up. As example Number of users reports increase of 10 but New users metric only report 5. Can you please let me know how these metrics are measured? How can the total number of unique users increase more than new users metric?

Every user that uses your app will get a random, unique userid that will be attached to every analytics event they send. If we've never seen that userid before, we will mark them as a New User for that day.

In your example, DAU can increase by 10 even if there are only 5 New Users if there is an increase in returning users (non-New Users).

    Hi Guys,
    Any update on this?

We are currently only building for android and testing in the editor, and are seeing drastically more DAU/MAU than the users currently testing. (approx 5-8 testers, vs 71 MAU, and 13 "new users" today)

    Thanks!

For apps in Google Play alpha testing, one thing to keep in mind is that Google will automatically test your app on multiple devices and those devices will show up in your Analytics dashboard:

Since yesterday, my DAU/New user count is about twice as big as normal but my ad revenue is normal, i think there is a bug with Livestream.
