To what extend are the Settings, Leaderboards, Shop etc. part of the copyright?

    Hi,

    I'm making a new game.
For the design of the Settings, Leaderboards, Shop, Invite Friends and Challenges I would like to copy the design of already existing games.
My game itself is completely different. The layout of the Buttons, Backgrounds are different too.

    Is that legal or not?

Copyright gets messy. With copyright you can only protect the concrete expression of the idea, not the idea itself.

So you can't make a shop that looks identical to that found in another game. You can blatantly copy design principles.
