    Hi all,
I saw the change log for the Timeline package here:
    https://docs.unity3d.com/Packages/com.unity.timeline@1.8/changelog/CHANGELOG.html

But in the package manager, only version 1.6.x is available to me.

The documentation explicitly states that the newer versions of Timeline are supported in Unity 2019.3+

Is there something that needs to be done in the package manager to get these new versions to show up? Thanks!

In the packages folder edit the packages manifest file and change the version

Same thing is happening to me (2021 LTS), is it intentional or is it a bug, if you happen to know?

This is known and as designed afaik.
They ship verified versions with 2021 which won't be updated. The latest timeline versions are tested to work, but not fully verfied to be included in-editor.
That's what it is from my understanding at least

It's a little... goofy. If you edit the manifest it does put a note that "hey, this isn't the verified version", which makes the intent a little clearer.

Yeah I also would prefer to see the latest version.
You could try and get a bug report in, but it will probably be out as 'by design'

They are reworking the manager in 2023 versions, so who knows

The package manager does have a feature for them to mark packages as experimental. If there are untested timeline versions, maybe they could be marked experimental. I definitely did look at that list before coming to the forum.

I think having to change versions by hand editing the manifest is not very convenient, because it hides the main mechanism Unity has provided for informing users about updates of packages. But thank you for the replies!

They are not experimental though, they are just not "verified" for 2021.

Which should be considered more stable? "Experimental" or "not verified"?

They are not terms for the same thing.

1.7 versions of the Timeline package are auto installed with 2022 LTS and I assume 2023 uses 1.8. 1.6 is verified for 2021, 1.7 for 2022 and 1.8 for 2023. All 3 versions should work in versions as old as 2019, but no one at Unity actually ensures that they do (whether it's "at all" or if it's "well" I do not know). No version is experimental.

An experimental package, is for a feature that isn't ready and may not even get actually released ever, Timeline hasn't been experimental for many years now.
