Tilemap a big Texture to increase mobile perfomance

    Hi

    We are using a big Texture as main map 4096*4096. ( 2d game)
    We zoom in and out on it, thats why it has to be that big.

    The map has a big impact on the fps on the mobile device.

    We are now tryieng to improve it by using the Tilemap system.

    Cutting it into power of 2 tiles.

    The idea is that it can cull out tiles (part of the image) when they are not on the screen.

    (The file size already decreased by 3 %)


    What do you guys think
    any perfomance improvements possible through that?
    Or will it get even worse?

    Ok by splitting the map into 1024 pieces and fit them in a tile map
    the fps increased between 0.4 to 2fps

    Splitting it further to 512 tiles had not further perfomance benefit.
