I just had to share this. I love love love LOVE Unity. I have been trying to build an RTS game using MegaGlest, which is an open source game engine. The problem with it was that it was old and no effort was made by its developers to modernize it. I did try SpringRTS but did not like it's interface or that all the game code was in Lua. I hit a solid brick wall trying to improve MegaGlest's pathfinder and while I was searching for articles to help me, I found Unity. I tried it out and was very happy that I did. I love the rich set of features, the look and feel of the development studio style user interface and how easy it is to create a game.

A HUGE thank you to the people who developed Unity and to whoever create the excellent tutorials that gave me a solid foundation in Unity.

It doesn't really surprise me. I've noticed a number of open source engines are often designed specifically for one game and not to be universal. If you're developing that game you'll do great, but if you want anything else you need to find one that is actually trying to be universal. Like Godot.

Yeah I frequently drop unity due to developing other stuff, and this time when I came back to Unity 5 I couldnt believe the quality. I am with you. Thanks for making a super engine team!

Everything prior to Unity were just dark times.

I'm with everyone else :) Just published my first game with Unity, and I'm really chuffed with how quickly I was able to pick it up - great set of tutorials available online, which really helped me get started quickly.
