You care about how many don't care? Let's take it to an extreme. 7 no, 3 yes, 1000 don't care. What now? Remove the splash screen and replace it with a progress bar?
Not caring is the worst opinion IMO, that's why I also don't support it. You don't support change and you are not happy with it enough either to vote yes. As you don't care about it anyway what's presented, why not vote yes and be done with it? If you really do NOT care. Don't vote and leave the thread. (I'm kidding, stay and entertain us)

edit: And right now votes are much closer now. Will take some time of course because most don't watch this thread but at least it shows that the new one isn't that offensively bad as the first one.

Sorry guys but I will be not actively participating in this thread anymore.
Unity 6 is still in beta and you still got the chance for splash screen to your liking.
I'm not going to cry If they change it, but I still consider such a change a waste of resources and unity needs every ounce of resources invested elsewhere.

Guys why are you still going on about something that is an obvious placeholder?

What is the purpose of this activity?

Just go to https://www.bing.com/images/create and make any splash screen you like..

What led you to believe it's just a placeholder?

Here's my take, its lifeless, soulless, gray, it fits perfectly into the corporate contingency driven user story matrices.
This should please the board and production directors that aim to provide a perfect "default" feel of Unity Game Engine and Runtime. This screams that the product (tm) is professional and high quality. And users will fall for it with a probability of 97.6%

Unity has a track record of having rather plain placeholders for alpha/beta versions and change it last minute. This even dates back into the days of Unity 5.x.

...however back in the day Unity's release splashes also included inspiring in-engine renders. Not abstract corporate blobs and shapes made in Houdini.

No I don't think so, it should work (it generally works for me when I use it) although if someone quotes you like I'm doing now, or if you get any likes, you will get the notification anyway, I think.

Ok, time for me to add to this unimportant discussion...

    This one is perhaps useable...

It was the case in previous Beta too. They used a different basic splash in the beta and a brand new one for the release.

And I return the question. What led you to believe it isn't?

Multiple iterations to the temporary. Like I don't expect the exact same image but this could be the overall design.

In the previous LTS the splash was kind of similar in a way. With the grid and all. Like a work in progress.

Too bad nobody keeps track of Unity splash screens.

Maybe this is what happens when you reset the company with no artist?

I just saw the Meta Horizon OS release note and these greyish graphics seem to be trending now:

Maybe Unity's hoping Meta still wants to buy them almost 10 years later? :p

I wouldn't even dare to call that programmer art. This verges on mockery. Maybe those artists love brutalism but even that has more detail.

Even the splash screen we're all complaining about looks nice, detailed and soulful by comparison haha.

Unity6.f1 "Preview" is out. The "placeholder" was not replaced.

Keep in mind the preview cycle is still not an LTS and will take several months before release. I do however really dislike the change in design moreso than the image. The default Windows progress bar, aliased text, and recently unrounded corners combine to feel like an outright downgrade from the old splash screen.

I always thought that the default Windows progress bar looked out of place in the splash screen
s, I would rather have it be in a separate window, just like how it was in older versions.

I knew if the placeholder shipped with the final release (that's what the "f" means by the way) people would start stretching to justify the decision. It's not an LTS but it's not a "preview" either. It's a TECH release just like we've had from 2017 to 2023 and every single one of those had an actual splash screen.

When the splash screen changes for Unity6, it'll be time to shine: See, it WAS a placeholder! You guys were so wrong! lol xD

On a more pleasant note, the blog post they just made has a screenshot of the new context menus. I hope that wasn't just a mistake picking marketing materials and that they do really plan on reintroducing them.

On a positive note, they're not wasting resources on art or even the UI, every dime is going into the engine.

They aren't really wasting that much on the engine either when they can spend it on sign-on and other bonuses for the management...

Actually when the editor opened, everything was very smooth and snappy. Normally you're used to something different, but everything worked and no crashes, etc. They definitely need to upgrade their editor UI and esp. the horribble context menus, but the build itself was decent. Maybe you're right :D
