The Underground King is an upcoming narrative - racing - manager RPG for PC, MAC & Linux where you recruit the city's low-lives, assemble junkyard cars and have them compete in street racing events for profit and infamy!

You play as the protagonist of the story, a manager striving to become the new Underground King of street racing.
Your mother died when you were just a child and you never met your father. The only family you know is your uncle Wart and his wife, Petunia. They took you into their modest home and cared for you the best they could. Uncle Wart traveled a lot as a freelance mechanic and Aunt Petunia worked double shifts as a nurse at a local clinic. You didn’t see much of them but they worked hard to provide for you, despite living just within their means.

With the most minimum of resources, you decide to rise above your condition and take reigns of the untamed streets.

Coming to the racing scene, you have no street reputation, no real crew nor any proper cars to race with. What you DO have, are 1 hobo you literally paid in peanuts and uncle Wart’s hippie van that’s been rusting in the garage since Woodstock.

Winning races, dealing in the black market and spreading your influence over the people, will let The City’s top dogs know that there's a new player in town.

The dregs of the city will flock to you for a quick buck, the adrenaline of racing or motivated by similar wants of overcoming adversity. You will earn reputation, money and loot to upgrade your social status, drivers and cars. With each race won, with each obstacle surpassed, you will climb the ranks in order to become the new Underground King.

On your desk back home, you have a folder with your item list, profile sheets of your drivers / cars and a map of The City with various marked points of interest.

When you participate in a race, you choose which car to use and up to 3 drivers with various roles and abilities to control that car.

You compete against with up to 3 other enemy cars/drivers. Each team, including your own, has unique abilities and stats that make every race exciting and challenging.
Each race itself has different terrain, rules and winning conditions to further diversify your playing experience.

Drivers and cars come with their own set of abilities. Combining these abilities can produce builds that easily surpass specific obstacles. This adds a huge layer of strategy on picking which drivers go in which car for which race.
    • The driver selected in the Wheels seat will control car’s speed and steering.
    • The driver selected in the Shotgun seat will control acceleration and various gadgets.
    • The driver selected in the Support seat will control ability cooldown and various tools to boost the drivers or the car.

The City is alive. Lots of things are happening each day, and you can involve yourself in the drama and conflicts as they happen. You’re not alone though, your drivers can help you get the best rewards, or the least painful penalties.

Acquire items from the Shop, from Events or from winning races. Items have trait and stat bonuses that, when equipped, upgrade the driver or car. They are all procedurally generated so you can create builds for specific purposes, like increasing race rewards, passing events more easily or even to defeat a specific boss by targeting specific weaknesses!

Each item, car and driver comes with a range of possible traits, each from its own list, depending on the generated level. Bosses and enemies work similarly, but they have their own special list and mechanics since they are controlled by the A.I.

These screenshots are from the previous build, v0.1; Myself and axlfree are working on a v0.2 version with better UI, better gameplay and overall a more fun game :D we will be posting a link to a demo as soon as we feel its ready.

We're always looking for feedback, if you have something on your mind, we'll happily listen to your suggestions

I tried it on Windows 8.1.

    1. It looks good but is barely playable.
    2. There is a lot of visual cutter in the UI. It seems complex and daunting.
    3. Racing is very boring since there is no physics to play with.
    4. There is no music.
    5. Humor is a bit vulgar. I noticed two jokes about defecation.

    0. Hey, thanks for playing! Have you noticed any bugs, crashes?
    1. Just an early alpha demo, unfortunately, a lot of existing features had bugs/crashes so we disabled them. We're working on it!
    2. Yeah, our artist does not have much UI experience, we're going to overhaul it all regardless of Kickstarter outcome. Does the sliding popup work for you? We like it and the lore supports it, but it IS different than the standard centered popup.
    3. We forced it to only have 4 of the 20 abilities, as well as faing the car stats because of the demo status.
    4. To reduce filesize. Some people don't like the punk tracks we have, and we want to add different "radios" for hiphop, techno but also punk/rock. Music however, is low on the priority list, so we rather disable it all rather than force just one type.
    5. Art is subjective :) There shall be more defecation jokes, among other mixed subjects. Do you see a possibility/wanting of having a "clean" version for kids?

Thanks again for playing! Hope a newer, better verion reaches your hands in the future. If it does, please come back and write your impression again. We read EVERYTHING we find about our game!
