In my case on Debian Sid with KDE/Plasma 5 and Breeze theme cursor, the theme missing "arrow" icon.

    workaround:
    # close unity
    cd /usr/share/icons/breeze_cursors/cursors/
    sudo ln -s left_ptr arrow
    # run unity :)

Just to confirm - this works on 18.10 Kubuntu as well. Jesus christ, it felt like I'd broken a finger or something with that inverted cursor. :p

I'm using manjaro. It worked too, but the cursor icons was in a slightly different directory, not sure if a different theme. Here it is:
    /usr/share/icons/xcursor-breeze/cursors/

    Hi!
As user Wen9 said, for me it was also caused by a wrong theme. If you're running gnome, you can try to switch your cursor using gnome-tweaks. Worked for me

I'm using Majaro Gnome with xcursor-breeze. I had to:
    Code (CSharp):
    1. /usr/share/icons/xcursor-breeze/cursors/
    2. sudo ln -s left_ptr arrow
