awsome! finally the robot is in action. Really loving this. i have a question, will the entire game take place in the castle?
    keep up the great work.

    There is a physics approach:

    http://docs.unity3d.com/Documentation/ScriptReference/Rigidbody.MovePosition.html
    and
    http://docs.unity3d.com/Documentation/ScriptReference/Rigidbody.MoveRotation.html

I haven't really used them myself, and I have noticed that most people go to the parenting approach. I assume it's because the parenting approach gives you more options/control and less "unexpected" results. For example, if you used this approach on your lift and the lift went up too fast, I assume you'd launch your character if your lift came to an abrupt stop. Whereas the parenting approach, the character never moves faster or slower than the lift itself, realistic or not.

    Cheers,

    Galen

    Hello!

Last week, I did the texture of another major part of the first level: the transit tower. This is the area where the girl meets the robot for the first time. Of course, I still need to add assets like light torches, banners, etc.; but you can get the idea. Thanks for your comments and support and please check out my blog for more info.

    Also,
@snowconesolid: thanks for your comment, yes the whole game takes place in the castle, but the castle have sections that are completely different from each other, from a castle town to underground tunnels, etc.
@galent : thanks for the info! I'll stay with the parenting solution for now since it works fine. I try not to use physic as much as possible since it often brings bugs.

man i love the feel of these environments
    the colors are just wonderful
is everything painted, or did you also used photos

imo you need a little bit more work on your characters
i like your robot, but he is a bit to plane
his maincolor is great, but you should add some details
now it looks like you just have a wireframe as texture
maybe add some more colorvariation, some darker or brighter parts
and i don't like your girl, sorry but she looks boring and
if you look at the video 0:23
the texture of her upperbody dress is just white
    she needs some more tones

the gameplay looks nice but i haven't seen enough yet to say much about this
i will keep an eye on this, looks like it can be a great game

Thanks for the feedback! Yes the level is hand painted by me :) As for the characters, I agree with everything you say. The characters you see are actually placeholders I made quickly so I could show something. They won't be in the final game for sure; I'm hoping to find a more talented character artist to re-make them...

Art for the first level is coming together. I added background elements such as hills and the sea. I also scripted a Camera Tour Mode that warps the camera from points to points so I can easily show off the level in videos. Enjoy!

It's promising , but I think it needs more color variation and/or a lot more contrast. Good luck.

@rextr09: Yes, I agree about the colors. hopefully it will look betters when I start adding props. I don't want to deviate away too much from the color palette though.

Hey! Today I have the pleasure to introduce a new member, the extremely talented 2D artist Monaka (もなか). Monaka will help me design the conceptual look of the characters in The Girl and the Robot and will also make some promotional art.

Today I can show you some of the amazing silhouette pictures that we came up for the girl. We pretty much have an idea of our favorite figure, but we would love to hear your opinions. Enjoy!

I can finally introduce Peet Lee, a very talented 3D artist that will work on the characters models. He can convert Monaka’s concepts art very well in 3D and his hand-painting texture skills are among the best! Check more of his work on our site.

Nice work, I think the lighting of the scene needs to be a bit better so we can see more light direction and areas of shadows and darkness. Right now there is no real focus for the eye. Other than that, its looking great :)

This is absolutely mesmerizing. Ya, I recalled 'Laputa' and gone a bit nostalgic.

One thing I'd like to suggest, is, if you can show the face or front face of the character. Not typical 3rd Person Cam but rather intellegent cam and camera cuts. Switching to side and front views. You know what I mean. That way the face, emotions and expressions of the girl would come across. And players would emote more.

    Looking forward to this.

Thank guys for the support, Ghibli is definitely a big inspiration for our game!
    @FlyingRobot
Are you talking about a camera like in Super Mario 64? We did think a lot about this issue actually, and if the avatar movement is relative to the camera like in Mario, it makes it very hard to control the avatar on a keyboard (without an analog stick). And since we want to make the game for PC first, we decided to go with a camera that stays behind the character. But don't worry, you will still be able to see the face of the characters during the cutscenes.

No, I was talking about camera like Metal Gear Solid series. The camerawork really revved up the drama of the game. Oh did I mention the awesome animations you guys are doing. Really giving a lot of character to the girl.

    Can't wait to see more.

    Awesome! Absolutely loving.

On the cons side : you could use some subtle hue variations. looks too much monochromatic.

    Thanks guys for the support,
and for the ones that think that the queen is hot; trust me you wouldn't want to start a relationship with her, she's of the crazy evil type, haha!
