As Aras said it had to do with the tabs. At least it's consistent on Windows :p

Yes, it's Command P; look in the edit menu. If you want it to be something else, use the OS keyboard preferences.

how silly of me not to try this first, I was looking at the shortcut menu in the unity preferences and did not see it. Thanks for pointing out it's already there.

Better yet, just type what interests you into the Help menu. ("Play" being in "Edit" makes little sense to me, but there's not much of a better option.)

Where? I have not seen this dialog except for the obvious "Load Project" in-editor.

Contrary to popular belief HiggyB does not run Unity single-handedly ;)

Contact support[at]unity3d.com, but before doing so make sure to check your spam folders.

We have preordered Unity 3.0 on 17th of June and we also didn't get any email from UT (we've checked spam too ;-)). So what is it with this "first come first served" rule? Is it really working? Why someone who ordered Unity on 1st of July already got his own beta and we didn't?

This versions seemed to be very promising and it is !

After every "big" things annonced (Beast engine for shadowing, cloth physics, Umbra occlusion culling, tc...) there are a lot of little enhancements like segmenting the default packages (pro/standard assets/toon) in smaller ones, specialised by functionnality (Ie : One package for Character controllers, Image effects, Physics materials, etc...)
This enables to build a project very fast with only the minimal required assets.
The new browser, also, is just exactly what i missed with other versions, giving a simple, visual and fast access to every assets in the project ; For a previous try of unity (Version 2.1) i had so much materials that the selection pannel was biggest than the screen ! Thanks to the next browser this will be old story !

Two possibilities: Either keep cmd (or some other modifier key, on Windows it might be ALT or Ctrl) pressed while starting up Unity or open Unity preferences and check "Show Project Wizard at Startup" ... if that checkbox is checked, Unity will always open the project wizard when starting up ;-)

    Thanks,
I would expect those kind of newbie modes would be default enabled :)
Not that many preference options and I still missed that one :)

For windows users it apears to be the Alt key to force it at launch.

The darker pro interface is really starting to grow on me, it seems that in the evening I prefer the darker and during the day the brighter. :)

Is there a way to assign one material to 20 objects via the GUI?
Or does it needs scripts to do this?

some really cool new features, and loving the dark scheme.

seen a few glitches/crashes, but to be expected as its beta.

the tree roots still dont go down far enough.. so on slopes you can see under/inside the trees. The pivot for trees should be moved up.

the wheel collider/physics seem to be broken/changed ?

Where the pivot is depends the model; it's not a function of the terrain system. So if you want it moved up, go ahead.

If he's referring to the Tree Creator made trees then that is an issue that we're going to fix. For models made in external apps just move the pivot point up.

anyone got any projects using the wheel collider ?
seems to not work the same anymore in 3.0Beta for me. Just trying to confirm if anyone else had the same experience ?
Or maybe something got changed on project import ?

    it indeed works differently

But given the bugs the wheel collider had in the old PhysX version thats nothing bad.

hmmmmmm, its bad for me, as I have a near-finished game based off the old system, now its broken.
Shame they couldn't just fix the bugs in the old system, rather than change how all the values work.

If I figure out a way to alter the values to make it behave in a similar way, I'll post something.

In general, it is not a very good idea to switch to a new major version of the game engine when your game is "near-finished". Unity 3.0 introduces *a lot* of changes, and some of them are breaking changes.

So that means when you move your project to Unity 3.0 you should know what you're doing - some things will break and require changes in your code and set up. Some things will have to be tested and tweaked all over again. But that's just normal with a major release like that.

If your game is "near-finished" I'd recommend finishing it with 2.6 - and then considering using 3.0 for an updated version of your game later.

One reason why there likely are breaking changes is that they have updated many of the integrated 3rd party libraries (Mono, PhysX, Raknet) - and these updates have long been requested by the community. So I'm *very* happy they *finally* did this (even though it means some work to just get everything running properly again).

3.0 is not a "bugfix release" but a "major release". I think they do their best to make the transition as smooth as possible - and I could imagine that it will be better with the final release of Unity 3 but there still may be rough edges even in the final release.

I mean, currently, Unity 3.0 is not only a major release ... but not even a "release" at all. Just a beta to play around with ;-)

The incompatibility of new PhysX vs old PhysX was why the PhysX was never upgraded in Unity 2.x according to informations mentioned.

But nothing forces you to upgrade at all. Your project is a 2.x project and its not very common that people upgrade to new major engine versions during the lifetime of a project. The opposite is standard because there is a good chance that many detail things have changed, which can cost you a lot of time to detect and potentially work around.

yes, I know, and agree, (from experience) that its not a good idea to change engine version, when a game is nearly complete...

but its just sooooo tempting with all the nice new features.

Why not release the initial version with the old and then upgrade for 1.1 / 1.5 of the game?

would also be great publicity and showing off your customer support dedication

Since we are talking about Physx differences, has anyone noticed different behavior in the Configurable joint. It seems to rock uncontrollably when I plug in large values to the various movement drives.

I think they might be skipping to Beta 4 for some users because of problems with iPhone Basic deployments, probably those whose turn are coming up close to Beta 4. That, or there's been a large wave of preorders pushing back the queue since I last ordered mine.
Got mine last week, ordered on the 3rd.

Is b4 already available? Couple of posts here have hinted that, but the update checker says that b3 is still the latest.

    I got a reply from Unity support w/ a link for b2
Is b3 the latest though? I'm a little confused. Just curious though it doesn't matter that much I'll still get to kick the tires on U3 when I get home tonight :)
